being farmed, 15 of the 19 cottages would
be built on land presently designed
recreational land by the Huron County
official plan.
Merle Gunby, president of the Huron
County Federation of Agriculture,
described the proposed development as
"creeping urbanization."
A decision from the OMB on the cottage
development is expected later this
summer.
TOWNSHIP
FEDERA TION
PROVIDES IMPUT
East Wawanosh Federation • of
Agriculture has been kept busy this spring
holding kitchen meetings in each
concession to give ratepayers the
opportunity to discuss informally the
upcoming township secondary plan.
Ten meetings have been held so far,
each attended by a line director and a
township councillor, and there are three or
four meetings yet to come.
"The meetings have created interest in
the planning process" said Walter Elliott,
township president, "But the biggest
issue has been the question of
severances."
Turnh,.'-y Township federation held
similar kitchen meetings in 1978 and
subsequenti) had good attendance and
participation of ratepayers at the public
meetings with the planning department.
Hopefully East Wawanosh will have
similar results.
HIGHLIGHTS
OF OFA DIRECTORS
MEETING
JUNE 20, 1979
A program for life insurance for farm
use adopted from the credit union program
will be initiated on a pilot project basis.
There would be a specific term for
enrollment, probably from Sept. 1 to Oct.
15 with no medical required if purchased in
that period.
OCCUPIERS' LIABILITY AND
TRESPASS TO PROPERTY ACT
A clause by clause review of the Liability
and Trespass Act was initiated by Ron
Jones, chairman of the Property and
Assess ment Committee.
The committee made recommendations
to the executive which would ensure the
protection of land renters and their
non -real estate property; to include
implements of husbandry as "premises"
and provide for the protection of owners of
such equipment even though it may
temporarily not be on the owner's land.
Another recommendation was made to
provide for nominal payments to occupiers
from trail clubs, government, government
agencies, resorts, etc. for compensation
without incurring liability to the occupier.
The committee recommended that • the
Trespass Act include fines of $25 for the
first offense; and $100. for the second
offense: the act should provide for the
occupier to impound vehicles used for
trespass purposes; also to remove the
limits on damage that a court conviction for
trespassing may award to victims of
trespassing.
PERTH COUNTY RESOLUTION
A resolution from Perth County was
passed asking that the Ontario -Federation
of Agriculture apply pressure to the
Minister of Agriculture and Food to
urgently consider getting additional
finances for extra staff and equipment for
the Huron Park Lab facilities. The
services provided there are in such great
demand that the backlog on diagnosis now
runs from two to three weeks requiring the
farmer to wait before starting to treat
diseases.
