What were your favourite foods
when you were a child?

Nothing evokes fonder memories than thinking about your
favourite foods when you were a child? Mom always had
something special for those young tummies. Often those good
recipes are lost in time or no one makes your favourites quite like
mom did.
Memory makes desserts sweeter, roasts meatier and breads
and cakes lighter. Time can do a lot for even the best of cooks.
Even the time of year can bring back memories. Peter
Hannam, president of the Ontario Federation of Agriculture
remembers his mother's home made raisin pie, with ice cream.
"I especially remember it at threshing time," muses Mr.
Hannam. "The pies would sit on the back veranda to cool and we
were allowed to eat as much as we wanted."
Eugene Whelan, Fed. Minister of Agriculture, remembers
many good things and credits his mother with being a "fine
cook." The Whelans were a large family and Mr. Whelan
remembers taking five pints of milk to school in a granite pail so
they would all have milk for lunch. The Whelan children also
worked for a beekeeper who had 1500 hives. Then, honey sold for
