The Rural Voice, 1979-05, Page 42graphic computers and many show a
previously unpublished county -by -county
breakdown of cropland increases and
decreases.
The maps, in both color and black and
white, include concentration of farm
population, ownership and production on a
national basis.
Among the atlas' findings are:
•Large decreases in cropland have
occurred in unexpected areas such as
Saskatchewan but have been offset by
increases in summerfallow.
•Farms with high average yearly sales of
$25,000 to $75,000 are common in the
Prairies, Ontario and Quebec but rare in
British Columbia and the Maritimes.
•Those with sales of more than $75,000
are frequent in southern Ontario but are
"somewhat Tess than expected on the
Prairies."
•Hay production is nationwide but
especially intense in Quebec.
•Vegetable production is concentrated in
Quebec and Ontario, with little on the
Prairies and less in central British Colum-
bia than might be expected.
