The Canadian government already has a
rationing system set up to meet any such
emergency and the agriculture industry
has a high priority.
Mr. Moffatt, speaking at the Farmers'
Week at Ridgetown College of Agricultural
Technology said he had already heard a
rumor ration books were printed up, the
same as in the last war.
Whether or not the Middle East situation
worsens, Mr. Moffatt said he doesn't
expect the price of gasoline to change
before spring, but a three -cent to five -cent
rise by June 1 is predicted.
For farmers, this means increased
transportation costs along with increases in
oil-based products such as fertilizers and
chemical products.
Mr. Moffatt expects fertilizer prices to
increase between 15 and 20 per cent;
chemical prices to rise 12 to 20 per cent and
feed to increase by five to eight -per cent.
He said the cost of Canadian -produced
goods used in farming will increase an
average of 10 per cent, with imports from
the U.S. up 18 per cent and Europe and
Asia 20 -to -35 per cent.

The Goderich town planning board has
refused the rezoning necessary for local
businessman Bob Gibbons to build a
restaurant at Harbour and Beach streets.
Members of the Huron County
Federation of Agriculture were going to be
asked to oppose the restaurant which one
of their committees feels could interfere
with farmers' livelihood.
The federation's land use committee,
chaired by Gordon Hill of Varna, recom-
mended that the federation executive
oppose the restaurant.
The location proposed for the restaurant
abutted the Goderich Elevator and Transit
Co. Ltd. and their grain handling facilities.
The elevator company opposed the re-
staurant on the grounds it would be
incompatible to the area.
Gordon Hill, chairman of the federation
committee, said the Goderich elevators
provide a service to farmers both as a
source of livestock feed and as a place to
store their grain for future shipment. He
said the elevators serve farmers in Huron,
Bruce, Grey, Perth and Middlesex
counties.
Mr. Hill said, "We are not opposed to a
restaurant. We are opposed to a restaurant
in this location."
When Goderich Elevators opposed the
restaurant, they listed noise, dust and
