market their beans as well themselves. As
well as questioning the board's value.
producers asked why they were obliged to
subsidize #3 and #4 grade beans. Charles
Broadwell, OBPMB manager told the
producers only a handful of beans usually
fall into the lower categories but 1977,
when only a small protion of the estimated
bean crop was produced and delivered,
was an exception.
Phil Durand, former OBPMB director,
also criticized the board's decision not to
forward sell any of the 1978 bean crop.
Producers at the meeting indicated by a
show of hands that about half plan to
decrease their bean acreage next year.
The directors elected at the meeting
were Bob Allen, Joe Miller, Murray Cardiff
and Gordon Hill, who is replacing Glenn
Hayter on the board.
In Perth, producers raised the issue that
Perth County needs more representation
on the OBPMB, since the county has only
one director in contrast to Huron County's
four representatives. The producers asked
that redistribution of directors be con-
sidered again in 1979.
Eldon Westman, a former member of the
Perth County Committee, was elected as
the Perth director on the board.

help farmers dry delicate crops more
efficiently.
The first application of the microwave
drying technique occured when the com-
pany rescued millions of military records
damaged in a fire at the Military Records
Centre near St. Louis several years ago.
The company decided to expand the uses
of their microwave drying system to
agriculture.
