The Rural Voice, 1979-01, Page 42asked to enter the contest by Warren Stein,
a neighbour, who was a member of the
Pork Board. Lynn credits much of her
success to the way Warren worked with
her. Lynn said she would go over to Mr.
Stein's barn and he explained things about
the pigs to her.
"I really appreciate him. He's helped me
out a lot," Lynn said.
Competition
In order to compete for the title of
Ontario Pork Hostess, the girls have to
either make a two minute speech relating
to pork or do a one minute commercial on
pork.
Also, the girls are interviewed by judges
who are looking for their knowledge about
pork; poise, appearance, how they delivery
their speech and how well it's put together.
"I think in reality they're looking for how
to sell it (the pork product)," Lynne said.
The contest is open to girls from 17 to 35
years of age who are single and it isn't
necessary for them to live on a farm.
Lynn who is 19 years of age, said when
she won at the county level she was still
going to school but now she is employed
part-time at a nursing home and sells
Amway products.
She recently received her provincial
honours in 4-H work and has been teaching
Lynn Townsend
4-H as well.
Lynn, the daughter of Ross and Marlen
Townsend, has five sisters and two
brothers.
At the county level, Lynn visited

different fairs like the Royal and the CNE.
She was also at the new Eaton Centre in
Toronto to promote pork during the
Canadian celebration week and attended
the International Plowing Match (IPM) as
well.
Lynn received gifts at both the county
level and the Ontario level. At the county
level she received a knee-length pigskin
coat, a pigskin purse and $30', and at the
Ontario level, she received $500 and a
pigskin suit.
Someday Lynn said she would like to get
a job where she is meeting people and
working with the public.
Speaking Engagements
When she was at the county level. she'd
go to Institute meetings, church groups,
and ladies groups where she would hand
out brochures, recipes and her special
recipe which she was going to demonstrate
plus a true -false quiz. Sausage casserole is
Lynn's favorite demonstration recipe.
Besides her new position as Ontario

4-H, bicycling, and roller skating.
As for her future Lynn says, "I might go
to Centralia college, into food service
management or I might even reconsider
being a hairdresser."
