Ail in favour of monitoring
foreign ownership
By Adrian Vos
At the annual OFA convention. the property committee
expressed concern about "the alarming rate of increase in
foreign ownership in the province." The committee said the
present 20 per cent foreign land transfer tax is no deterrent -to
foreign ownership of farmland.
The convention agreed without one dissenting voice that the
Ontario government should, without delay. undertake a survey
to determine the extent of foreign ownership in rural areas and
monitor all land transfers to private or corporate ownership.
The study must include an inventory of all farmland holdings
of "non-farm, Canadian corporations."
Support for fee increase
By Louise Marritt
The need for more funding into OFA to service increasing
demands is an urgent need for the farm organization. Ralph
Barrie, first vice-president, explained that a static membership
will not provide sufficient funding for increasing activity on
behalf of farmers and the rising cost of providing these services.
Strong support for the increase in membership fees from $35
per year to $50 with a $5 reduction if paid on the automatic
system was received from the convention delegates.
4 AM,
Rub Hill of Huron County, Marilyn Smith of Huron County and
Mrs. Bordon Fenton, from Bruce County, relax over a cup of
coffee In the get -acquainted party held for the wives of delegates
attending the OFA convention.
