donates to Sierra Leone project
The Perth County Feder-
ation of Agriculture donated
$25 to OFA's Foreign Aid
Committee to help it clean up
a few left over bills.
In a letter read to the
November meeting of the
Perth Federation, the For-
eign Aid Committee request-
ed financial assistance to
fulfill its obligation to finance
part of a foreign aid agri-
cultural project in West
Africa.
About one year ago the
foreign Aid Committee
undertook an agricultural
development project in
Sierra Leone in co-operation
with the World University
Service of Canada (WUSC).
OFA's share was to sponsor
a farm manager to implement
and administer a poultry
farm and hatchery there.
Roland Stalker of Bath, Ont.
was selected and went to the
site.
After spending several
weeks there Mr. Stalker was
of the opinion that consider-
able additional funds were
required to repair machinery
and purchase corn for live-
stock feed if the project was
to be a success. He returned
to Canada and a presentation
was made to the Canadian
International Development
Agency (CIDA) through
WUSC and an additional
$70,000 was received.
Mr. Stalker did not return
to Africa, as a suitable
replacement was found who
already was on the continent
under the employment of
another aid organization. On
last report (July 1978) the
project was well underway.
In light of the completion
of the Foreign Aid Commit-
tee's initial undertaking the
committee has decided to
terminate it's commitment to
WUSC. The project has in-
curred an expense of $10,000
on the OFA sponsored farm -
manager's account. About
$7500 has alretdy been
raised but the Foreign Aid
Committee would like to
clean up its deficit by the end
of November. The Perth
Federation donated the $25
hoping that if each county
federation in the province
follows suit then the project
bill can be paid by OFA

(L) J. Gillespie, (R) R. Patterson, Shur -Gain Nutritionist
Many feed lot operators using silage
or haylage for market finishing beef
cattle are adding urea or other protein
additions at silo filling time. For these
feeders, we have formulated a new
balancing supplement that provides
the right levels of vitamins and
minerals normally lacking in these
high protein feeds. You iust need to
feed about a '/.1b. per neau per day
(•1 kg) to make the extra protein pay
off to its full potential.
Shur -Gain new 10% Beef Cattle
Supersila supplement. Top feed it!
Mix it in! Either way it will help you
get the full potential from your feed
and your finishing cattle.
