The Bruce Federation of Agriculture
held it's two I.S.M. regional meetings in
October. Both of these meetings were
poorly attended. Members in Bruce missed
an important chance to influence the future
of our business. Both nights were good
"corn" nights, but it is a shame so many
members missed these excellent meetings.
The I.S.M. meeting for Centre and North
Bruce was held October 2, at the Tara
Community Centre, Tara. Borden Fenton
acted as chairman for the meeting and
welcomed those present. Harold Poechman
reported as regional director for the past
year. He mentioned O.F.A.'s price index,
the progress made on the corn plan,
resolutions for :warded from Bruce and
O.F.A.'s attempts to improve farm
machinery legislation. Borden Fenton also
reported as regional director and stated
that he felt there was a lack of comments
from I.S.M.'s and encouraged them to be
more vocal.
Albert Simpson introduced the guest
speaker, Bev Brown. who spoke on the new
interest the Ontario Government has given
to O.F.A. She also spoke on her
experiences on becoming a farmer and the

advantages of her new lifestyle.
She was enthusiastic in her
approach to farming and had obviously
become very knowledgeable about the hog
operation. She was humorous. sincere, and
at all times interesting. Those who missed
her are unfortunate.
It was decided at the meeting that
O.F.A. should sponsor a series of meetings
to educate the new gcneration of farmers in
the role of marketing boards. quotas etc.
Discussion was also held on O.F.A.'s bid
for farm machinery legislation and milk
quota. cuts.
The elections were chaired by Bob Leslie
and the results were:
North Bruce - Borden Fenton, R.R.3,
Allenford, Ontario. Director; Delegates -
Wayne Robertson, R.R.2, Port Elgin; R.J.
Cobean. R.R.2, Port Elgin; one more to be
chosen by board.
Centre Bruce - Harold Poechman, R.R.2,
Walkerson, - Director; Delegates - John
Findlay, R.R.1, Cargill; Albert Simpson,
R.R.1. Elmwood; Don Ahrens, R.R.2,
Elmwood.
