Their solution was to establish a floor price
for wheat and, thus, in effect, pay
producers not to grow grain.
The impact on farm implement makers
of the higher prices for grain and what is
going on in the cattle business at the
moment can only be salutory. Canadian
farmers purchase roughly 70% of their
equipment needs from United States
manufacturers. And 80% of Canada's
production heads south of the border.
Christian farmers
talk marketing
with Newman
Eight members of the Christian Farmers
Federation of Ontario met recently with the
Honourable William Newman and his staff
to express their frustration over provincial
marketing policies. The CFFO's Provincial
Board at a meeting in Milton adopted a
brief raising a number of questions about
who is responsible for agricultural policy in
commodities controlled by quotas.
The Brief asked that the Minister launch
"a public review of provincial marketing
policies and legislation so that our various
-des can be better understood."
John Janssens, CFFO President and an
egg producers from Lambton County,
expressed his concern over the egg quota
leasing policy.
William Van Huizen, a Director of the
CFFO Executive and a chicken producer
from Beamsville, detailed his concern
about the order by the Farm Products
Marketing Board earlier this year reducing
production intentions of the Chicken
Board.
Henk Westerhof, President of the
Niagara South Christian Farmers As-
sociation and a dairyman at St. Anns, drew
attention to the recent changes in the dairy
quota
"We were encouraged by the Minister's
response to our frustration." says Mr. van
Donkersgoed. "Consideration is being
given to some kind of forum for public
discussion of the issues raised."
Also participating in the Federation's
delegation were Sid Ryzebol, Federation
Vice -President from Dufferin County, Neal
Buiter, President of the Oxford County
Christian Farmers Association and Martin
& Jenny Oldengarm of Harristion.

comprehensive information on the

and additional helpful hints are explained
in detail.
Although the booklet was prepared with
the new breeder, junior and 4-H member in
mind, the Association has received favor-
able comment from the "seasoned"
