PROFILE - BILL PULLEN
Bill Pullen v% as elected last October as Director on the Huron
• County Federation of Agriculture. Bill is a beef farmer living in
Morris Township.
Bill started out in farming near Komoka and moved to Morris
Township 19 years ago when he wanted a larger farm. His farm
consists of 200 acres and he grows corn and barley, some of which is
sold and the remainder is stored and fed on the farm. Two years ago,
Bill stopped growing pigs and remained in raising stocker calves to
finish weight. He finishes about 60 cattle every year.
Bill is a bachelor and farming is his main interest and occupation.
He is quite self-sufficient and looks after his own home and also has
a vegetable garden in the summer. He does find time for one form of
recreation and belongs to the Dart Club at the Brussels Legion,
which meets once a week.
Bill joined the OFA in 1970 and has been active in promoting OFA.
He is President of Morris Township Federation of Agriculture.
Morris Township has 150 members and Bill is proud that 95 per cent
of these are on automatic renewals.
Bill sees the high replacement cost of machinery as one of the
main problems farmers have to face. He does most of his own
welding and repair work.
Bill would like to see more input from commodity groups at
monthly OFA meetings and also thinks the Directors of these
Commodity groups should take part in the Federation Executive
Meetings.

Federation of Agriculture sat down with MPPs Murray Gaunt and
Jack Riddell to discuss the many concerns of farmers and to consider
ways in which these problems might be resolved. Briefs were
presented by the Executive, the Regional Directors of 0.F .A. and by
various commodity groups who were invited to attend. Also present
were the County Warden, Gerry Ginn and the Reeves of five or six
townships. Unfortunately, due to last minute problems, our MP,Bob
McKinley was unable to attend.
For about five hours, everyone present joined in a free -wheeling
discussion and exchange of ideas on a vast range of subjects. As Don
Pullen said, "As long as we can sit down together and talk things
over, surely we can come up with a few solutions". Nick Whyte, a
White Bean Producer Committee man, suggested that next year we
