The University of Guelph's Rural Development
Outreach Project aims to help people to help
themselves.
If any university in Ontario is closely linked with rural
residents it would seem to be the University of Guelph. After all,
the researchers and experts at the Ontario Agricultural College
of the university have been passing on advice to farmers for
many years. Yet the rest of the facilities at the University have

not been so close to residents outside the immediate area of
Guelph.
Attempts are presently being made to remedy that situation
thanks to a project called the Rural Development Outreach
Program which has set out to harness the facilities of the
university to help rural people improve their lifestyle. A pilot
