Thames Valley Children's Centre
celebrated the new opening of its building
at 779 Base Line Road East on Friday,
September 15. Attending the ceremony in
the playground was the Honourable
David Peterson, Premier of Ontario;
Deputy Mayor Jack Burghardt, the
Honourable Tom Hockin, MP London
west (Federall Minister of State for Small
Business and Tourism) and more than
400 children and friends of the Centre.
The Honourable, David Peterson,
Premier of Ontario commented on the
state-of-the-art facility and its impact as
a rehabilitation centre in Ontario. He said
"Through the efforts of all those who con-
tributed towards the establishment of this
new Centre, it is gratifying to know that
this special group of young people will
have the opportunity to achieve their
goals for a better quality of life."
Premier Peterson then cut the cake
and gave a piece to Franklin Nother, 10
years old, and Chesley Walters, 5 years
old, who both attend the school at the
Centre. Balloons were released which
added to the jubilant mood in the
playground.
Ken Crivea, 9 years old, presented an
original piece of his art to Premier
Peterson. Using his touch talker, Ken
welcomed everyone to the Centre and in-
vited them to tour the facility.
Tom Mitchell, Chairman of the Board
of Directors, said "Today is a momentous
occasion. The new environment will give
each disabled child and young adult the
opportunity to attain the highest quality
of life by helping them reach optimal in-
dependence, self-respect and participation
in society."
He added "We are grateful and
thankful to our friends. As a result of
your encouragement, support and com-

and an apartment to help adolescents
cope with the activities of daily living.
