It is easier to try to anticipate these effects and prepare for them than to react to the unexpected. If, for exam- ple, we leave more trash on the soil surface by chisel plowing, we will need to modify the planter to place the seed through the trash. The exact system that is best will be unique to each farm. It will vary depen- ding on soil type, slope, drainage, type and number off livestock, the types of crops the farmer likes to grow, and the resources available. What works for your neighbour may not be the best system for you. Conservation farming includes many aspects which are similar to conven- tional farming, such as crop rotation. It is typified, however, by fewer passes over the field, more residue on the sur- face at planting, and more consideration to the variances between individual fields. Junior Agriculturalists Start This Week A few of this year's Junior Agriculturalists started the week of -- -Jane- 19-tl i- groat_ of --the;r, -Mid- Western Ontario starting on June 26. These young people from urban backgrounds are in for eight weeks of new experiences this summer. The Junior Ags. will be working on farms until August 18. At last count there were about 18 Junior Agriculturalists placed across Bruce, Huron and Perth Counties. Many farm organizations and agri- businesses have made donations of mer- chandise and supplies for orientation day. Numerous caps and work gloves have been received. RIME STOPPERS 1-800-265-3787 Crime Stoppers is seeking the public's assistance into the investigation of thefts of antique furniture in the Bruce Township area, near Tiverton, Ontario. The Kincardine Detachment of the On- tario Provincial Police report that sometime between September 1988 and May 1989, unknown person (s) entered an old vacant farmhouse at Lot 13, Con- cession 2 of Bruce Township, near Tiverton. The culprit(s) entered the far- mhouse by forcing open a door. Once in- side two antique oak tables were remov- ed. One table 'is described as being 3'4" x' 5' with a brown varnish finish and having spindle legs. The other table was 3'6" x 5' with a black paint finish and having spindle legs. The owner can identify the tables as he still has the leaves for each. The tables are valued at approximate- ly $200 each as is. The theft of antique furniture from what appear to be abandoned houses in Bruce Tonwship has been an ongoing concern to the OPP. It appears that all the thefts are being done by someone who knowns the value of the articles once refinished. Only refinishable and valuable antiques are beim stolen. If you feel you can help in this or any other case, Crime Stoppers of Grey Bruce are milling to pay a reward up to $1,000, for information leading to an ar- rest. Call Crime Stoppers at 1.804285-3787. You will .not be asked to identify yourself. You will be issued with a Code number. You will never have to testify in court.
