INLOUGH
by May Boyle
Grace Eckenswilier was the director
and the guest speaker was her niece, Jean
Blackwell, of London who is a stroke
survivor.
At the age of 33 she suffered a stroke and
after five operations and seven months of
hospitalization, she returned home and
began to pick up the pieces of her life. She
is president" of the Stroke Recovery
Association of London.
She said a stroke can affect people in a
variety of ways. When the right side is
paralyzed it takes the speech and memory
loss which is very frustrating for them and
for those around them and also, a change in
personality, which is very hard to accept.
Jean gets around with the use of a cane
and is able to speak well and is a most in-
teresting person.
She answered questions, and chatted
freely with the members and visitors who
were also interested in her. She was
presented with a gift.
Readings were ;given by Joan Murray
and Agnes Hodgins and Lorraine Mac-
Pherson and Mrs. Harold Smith conducted
contests.
Following the courtesies refreslunents
were served by the hostess Bessie
Maulden.
