The second fire Friday around 5:30 p.m. was a much larger problem being a barn and other buildings and requid both Ripley and Luclmow to bring under control, evenvdththeirciffortsa large amount of livestock was lost by John McIntosh of RR 3 Luclmow out on °Highway 86. Then there was The one on Saturday, was this another fire, no! this was .another Ripley team being honoured by the village in traditional style. The Ripley Midgets had won the local Lions Tournament, by defeating Drayton in the final .after beating Wingham 4-1 and Zurich '6-1 in earlier games. The consolation final was won by Lucan who beat Wingham 7-4. There isnova3ito describe with words the atmosphere in the Ripley -Huron arena as the final game .started, Ripley in green, Drayton in orange and an obviously par- tisan crowd of spectators. After the first period the score was 04 and tension began to build, after the 2nd period the score was • still 0-0 and by now the crowd was yelling an ,screititlingforTgOd y chances-a-nd groaning when Drayton was on the offensive. Just past the halfway point in the third period Steve Twolan scored a power play goal to put Ripley up 1-0 and only a spec- tacular save by the _Drayton netminder ininutestlater keptit that way. With 2:351eft in the game Chris Lowry scored to give Ripley a .2.0 lead ,and the crowd went banmias,ineincludedpen,paper, cigarettes and 'lighter in the excitement, even when Ripley took a twominute penalty .at.2:03 to go we knew that we were the winners. Gail Coiling of Ripley won the 5040 draw of $156 but the biggest 'winners were those peoplewho turned outtocheer on the Ripley team in that final game, congratulations to the Lions for an excellent tournament, and a terrific roast Web:limier that at $6 had to be the best buy of the day. The Ripley team look strong this season, and will provide stiff competition for their opponents. The Atom A's play tonight, Wednesday, Feb. 1 11. p.m. against Tara. This should be an excellent contest at the arena. Watch for other playoffs and try to attend. The teams appreciate all the support you can give.
