NOVEMBER BY JENNIFER TIGERT, GRADE 8, St. Joseph's, Kingsbridge November is the time of year when winter begins. The leaves from the tall, bare trees lay scattered on the ground and everything becomes an ugly dull grey. Remembrance Day takes place in November. The soldiers who fought for our freedom are like those dead leaves forgotten". It is a time for all the people to gather around the local cenotaph remembering their loved ones who were killed and the hopeful memories, thinking ti:oy will come home day after day, but they didn't. Many men were lost, brothers, sons, fathers and friends. They now lay under the ground only represented by small white crosses, row after row. Now they are free from the war and hatred that was spread among them, but the pain and agony still lives, though many forget. Wives lost their husbands, mothers and fathers lost their sons and children lost their parents, all because of one little word, WAR. I may be a thirteen year old living in a free country without war. People may think that children only think of war as glory and something to be proud of. But in my eyes, the pain is very real to me. Many times I find myself thinking of the torture that hundreds of families went through. We may wear poppies that show others we remember. but do we remember? Or +' even for that matter, do we care? I do. I think we owe it to the soldiers and their families for at least 15 minutes on one day a year tc remember. Indeed we do, for we owe them our freedom that they fought for.
