The Lucknow Sentinel, 1988-11-30, Page 19Winners announced in By Missy Mohring and Jessica Fairbairn Student's Council On Nov. 18 we had the draw for the ghet- to blaster and television. The draw for the T.V. was made by Mr. Nau who was here helping us with Japan Day. The winner of the T.V. was Diane Ross. Mr. Colber, the new vice principal of Brookside, made the draw for the ghetto blaster and the winner CLARK -LOREE' Pamela Joan Clark and Stanley Edward Loree were joined in holy matrimony Oc- tober 15, 1988. The ceremony was coducted at the Blythwood Road Baptist Church with Dr. Wm. Wood and Rev. P. Stevens officiating. The bride is the daughter of Ernest and Joan Clark of Toronto while the groom is the son of Austin and Mildred Loree, Lucknow. Attending the bride for the ceremony was maid of honour Miss Laurie Clark, Toronto, and bridesmaids Cathy Tustin of King City, and Patty Csire of London. Joining the groom at the altar was groomsman Dave Faught, Toronto, and ushers Brad Kalbfleisch of Moorehead and Jeff White, Kitchener. Friends and family wished the newlyweds well at a reception held in North York. The happy couple now reside at 278 Viewmount Ave, Toronto. was Jeniffer Mfoffatt. Music Happenings Brookside's Grade 7-8 uke group and chorus will be performing in the "Christmas Sing" at Lucknow Community Centre on Thursday, Dec. 1 ,at 8:00 pm. Proceeds are for the Lucknow area Christmas Fund. See you there! Room 4 The Room 4 Wonder Tree explored a box of Japanese treasures this week. We each picked our favourite and wrote about it. We've also tried Japanese weaving and chopsticks. Champion chopstick user was Sara Campbell. After eating her rice, she ate her lunch spaghetti-o's with them! We watched a film about Japanese farm- ing. The women plant the rice crop! We found two stories that are alike: our "Tom Thumb", and the Japanese "One Inch Boy". Jackie Hackett is our "Special Me." Grade 2 Our class is making dinosaur popup books, we have lots of centres some of them are Dino Ramp, Dino plays and lots of guessing games. We learned that they have stories just like our Tom Thumb. The Japanese version is called One Inch Fellow. We also learned that the Japanese farm rice, tea, peanuts. Some time next'week our Japan book should be finished. Sayonara. Grade 4 For the last three weeks we have been making a totem pole that's almost 21/2 metres high, it's been fun. On Wednesday, we had a pay day. We have been studying about the Kwakiutl In- dians. We have been practicing for the Christmas Concert. Grade 6 We are working on projects about Africa. Students pick a country and then study it and make a presentation. Some of the countries are Egypt, Chad, Zambia, Sudan and lots more. We would like to say happy birthday to Gail Daily on Nov. 27. Grade 7 Last week we had Japan day. We played games, cooked and made a lot of things. On Monday we had a quiz on St. Helen's, Lucknow and Dungannon. Now in History we are starting Native Communities. Grade 7/8 Come one, come all, in three weeks Brookside will be having their Christmas concert and our class has been chosen to do the backdrop. This year's theme for the concert is Christmas Cards. Congratulations to Keith Todd who won the Junior Champion Showmanship in the Junior Sheep Division, at the Royal Winter Fair last week. Quiz As you have recently read in the Brookside Broadcast we gave 4 clues to an answer. This week we shall give you the answer.
