"We need strong local representatives on village council or we are destined for regional government." (Diana) Lynn Peck A new face on the municipal scene is Lynn Peck, who is running for councillor. Mrs. Peck, husband Bob and daughter Mandy have resided permanently in Lucknow for the past 13 years, although Mrs. Peck had been coming to Lucknow long before moving here. She is the third generation in her finally to have pwned local businesses in Lucknow. Mrs. Peck has served on the executive of local and provincial homeowers associa- tions and representedthese groups at several Ontario Municipal Board Hear- ings, which involved organizing and chair- ing meetings witn homewoners, govern- ment agencies and members of parlia- ment. She was project manager for a joint- ly sponsored local initiatives project. The above involvement gave her the ex- perience to deal with the procedures necessary when applying for grants, and dealing with construction contractors and projects. Mrs. Peck is also a volunteer worker. She would "like the opportunity to learn and participate in decisions which affect the future of our community. I think we should encourage the completion of cur- rent projects before any more increases in cost make it impossible for the village to afford. We should investigate all current or future programs (Federal or Provin- cial) m the form of grants or low interest loans and make use of them for our advan- tage for a prosperous, progressive plea- sant place to live and raise families." Mrs. Peck states " I am willing to spend the time and effort required" as a coun- cillor and "am capable of understanding current projects." "The village would benefit by having a a balance between experience and new perspectives and ideas." 'Mrs. Pollard states that she has a great deal of experience dealing with people, having been employed in banks, financial departments and various medical offices. When asked why the voters of Lucknow should elect her, Mrs. Pollard said, "Hav- ing grown up here, I feel it's a great place to raise a family, live, retire and grow old. I want Lucknow to have the necessary facilities so people don't have to go elsewhere. Lucknow has always been a good strong community, but I worry about its future, say 50 years from now. Will it be thriving and prosperous as it once was Being on highway 86, with a strong farm- ••• ing population and close to Lake Huron, this town should be booming and progress- ing. Why isn't it? Other towns, I've lived in and seen, are prospering, experiencing a building boom, inviting industries and, new business, but this isn't happening here." "I think every concerned, community minded citizen should be willing and honoured to take a term on council if the public feels they would be an asset to the village." "If elected, I can only do my best for the Village of Lucknow and its citizens." "I have supported projects in the township, such as the new arena, the new administration building, the recyle pro-, gramme and development of land fill site. I have always worked for the benefit of the majority of the residents. " "We have spent a great deal of time to work towards the completion of the Secon- dary Plan and I would like to see the pgrogramme continued into the next stage which is zoning." "I would like to promote some develop- ment in the urban areas such as Dungan- non, Auburn, St. Helens and south of Lucknow." Huron Township Maryse Cale Maryse Cale last served on council in 1982 and is running in this election for councillor in Huron Township. She feels the present council is spending too much money on large projects and not enough on roads. "We should keep up maintenance while holding a tight rein on new projects." Another situation she would like to see changed is in the area of projects started by the township and not completed quickly enough. She feels that once started the pro- ject, such as the community centre in Pt. Clark, should be finished as soon as possible. , Mrs. Cale is also concerned with citizens "having more accessibility to council," in order' for problems to be dealt with sooner than they are now.
