National Tripartite
Stabilization Plan
With the current unsettled market prices
in the beef industry many producers that
have not already joined the National
Tripartite Stabilization for beef may be
presently looking at the program.
Under the Tripartite Stabilization Plan,
costs are shared equally among producers
and the federal and provincial govern-
ments. Producers are eligible for a
stabilization payment per head when the
market price falls below the support price.
There are three plans that are available
namely, feeder option, slaughter option
and cow/calf option.
However, producers who did not join in
the original Tripartite Program but who
enroll now, will be subject to a late entry
penalty for those options.
An animal only qualifies for a support
payment when it is sold and the support
payment is that which applies to that class
of animal on the date it is sold.
Tripartite Stabilization may be con-
sidered an alternative from market risks
to help reduce income loss.
Corn Mold
Corn molds have been a problem for
pork producers in Ontario for many ears.
The pink mold that produces zearalenone
and vomitoxin is caused by the •fungus
Fusarium Graminearum.
There are three laboratories that can
test for mycotoxins for a fee, 1) Vet Lab
Services, OMAF, Box 3612, Guelph NIH
6R8 (519-823-8800), Extension 4521 (Tox-
icology Lab); 2) Paracel Labs Ltd., 8-17

(613-225-2447) ; 3) Canpro Labs, 88 Cham-
pagne Dr., Downsview, Ont. M3J 3C6
(41&635-8692).
The fungus Aspergillus Flavus produces
aflotoxin and is a problem in the U.S. It
shows up as a dark, greenish mold on ex-
posed ear tips. This toxin attacks the liver
and immune system of single stomach
animals including humans. Fortunately,
this disease is not known to occur in
Ontario.

Soccer Tournament
On Tuesday, October 18 we had a soccer
tournament. It was our school against
Timothy Christian, Owen Sound. Luke
scored two goals in one game. The first
game score was 2 to 0 for us. The second
game score was 1 to 0 for the mixed team.
It was fun watching the games. I got to
root for our team. Too bad that Timothy
did not get anybody to be rooting for them.
At the end of the games we got the trophy
for half of the year and Timothy got it for
the other half of the year. Michelle

Girl Guides enjoy camping trip
With the weather we've been having the
girl guides picked a perfect weekend to go
camping on October 14,15 and 16.
Guiders Joan Chamney and Tracey
McDonagh took 22 girls to the property of
Al and Gladys Hamilton, on the 12th of
Ashfield.
The guides spent time pitching tents,
building campfires, making gadgets
(clotheslines, boot racks, washstands),
crafts, going for trecherous hikes and pad-
dle boating.
The girls enjoyed doing all their cooking
over an open fire and singing songs around
it at night.
Everyone came home tired and ready
for a bath but they all agreed it had been a
fun weektend.
The Guides thank Al and Gladys once
again.
