Do the drawings from your business run out before the end of the month? Many families have difficulty estimating what is needed for family living costs. This is especially true when family and business expenses are closely tied together, as they are on a farm or in a home-based business. The Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food has recently published a Family Financial Record Book to help you and your family with your financial planning. The most difficult part of financial plan- ning is knowing what you presently do with your money. This workbook is designed for All candidates go head to head The Bruce and Grey County Federation of Agriculture are sponsoring an "all can- didates meeting" for the up -coming federal election, for the people in the new electorial district of Grey and Bruce. The meeting will be held on November 2, 1988, at 8:00 p.m. at the Chatsworth Community • Centre. Be sure to attend the meeting and bring your neighbours, family and friends. Ask questions and hear the views of the can- didates concerning agriculture. For further information contact the Bruce Grey Federation of Agriculture Of- fice in Hanover at 364-3050 you to record your personal and household income and expenditures and to examine them over a period of time. Then you have valuable information to help you plan financial goals, whether to cover weekly living costs, savings, vacation or, perhaps, some home improvements. The workbook also helps you track the changes in your personal and family net worth and to make realistic decisions about meeting long term financial goals. The Family Financial Record Book is available free of charge from the Rural Organization Specialist at your local On- tario Ministry of Agriculture and Food office. 4-H REPORT by Terri Lynn Menary This club met for their second last meeting on October 17 at the home of Margaret Bakker. The group discussed which meats we eat most and why. Most of the meeting was about using microwaves for cooking meats. An example was for ground meats, you cook on high power, tender roasts you cook on medium power and less tender you cook on medium low. For defrosting if there is plastic wrap on the meat you do not have to remove it. The group also discussed the variety of meats ( organs) such as liver, kidneys, heart, tongue, brain, sweetbreads and tripe. A review followed and a crossword puzzle. The meeting closed with sampling of microwaved sweet and sour meatloaf. Genealogy group hold meeting The South Bruce Genealogy Group met on Oct. 13 at the home of Wanita Fletcher for, a special work meeting. Members proof-read data from a Scrapbook loaned by Jessie Convay. These Scrapbooks are very valua- ble for material for the current production of the Kincardine Township History. Isabel Munro spoke of the help given a man seeking a Young family of the area and Wanita Fletcher had helped Bessie Anning of Colorado on her Arming family. Apparent- ly, the Annings went to Sarnia from Kincar- dine. Gladys Arnold reported on Qyerues. Clayton MacDonald had found information on his McLay and MacDonald families in the History of Lindsay Twp. as well as Huron. Hilda Downey is seeking a John. Fisher who came from Ireland to Huron Twp. with the Boyds. These were relatives of George Downey's mother. What became of John Fisher? Gwen Harrison had received a let- ter from a Young of Australia seeking Daggs of this areat Mrs. Mervyn Funston has had Atcheson relatives visiting from Ot- tawa and Oregon. Faye Topliff of Duluth is seeking for infor- mation on Daniel MacDonald of Huron Twp. who was a fisherman and drowned about June 16, 1864 at Kincardine. Where can she get information on Lake boats? Someone from Mount Forest is seeking Malcolm McIver and his wife, Christine McRitchie of Huron Twp. and N. Bruce County and also Kenneth Graham of same localities. Chairman, Gwen Harrison announced the Branch meeting at Hanover on Oct. 25 and the Regional meeting at Waterloo on Oct. 31. Some copies are available for Census of Kin- cardine Twp. The Group will hold its annual meeting in November beginning with a lun- cheon and then business at the Kincardine Library. Brussels Stockyard Report The market at Brussels Stockyards on Oct. 21 sold on a good demand at steady prices on all classes of slaughter cattle. Weaner pigs traded steady to last week. There were 729 cattle and 462 pigs on offer. Choice Steers - 84.00 to 87,00 with sales to 88.75. Good Steers - 80.00 to 84.00. A limousin steer consigned by Lorne Forster of RR 1, Lucknow weighing 1150 lb., sold for 88.25, with his total lot of thirty- one steers averaging 1287 ib., selling for an average price of 82.07. Sixty-two steers consigned by Maple Emblem Farms of RR 1, Dungannon, averaging 1226 lb., sold for an overall price of 82.90, and.they had sales to 84.75. Eight steers consigned by Murray Thompson of RR 1, Kincardine, averaging 11341b., sold for an average price of 82.27, with sales to 83.50. Choice Exotic Heifers - 84.00 to 86.00 with sales to 86.75, Good Heifers - 80.00 to 84.00. A red heifer consigned by Gordon Dougherty of RR 3, Goderich, weighing 1210 lb., sold for 86.75, with his total offer- ing of six heifers averaging 1172 lb., selling for an overall price of 79.44. Twenty-six heifers consigned by Rick Smith of RR 2, Ripley, averaging 1095 ib., sold for an average price of 82.33 and he had sale to 84.75. A charolais heifer consigned by Jack Graham of RR 3, Goderich, weighing 1040 lb., sold for 83.50. Choice Cows - 47.00 to 52.00, Good Cows - 43.00 to 46.00, Canners & Cutters - 39.00 to 42.00. 20-30 lb. pigs traded to a high of .40 per lb., 30-40 lb. to .44 per lb., 40-50 Ib. to .44 per lb., 50-601b. to .44 per lb., 60-701b. to .49 per lb., 70-80 lb. to .40 per ib., 80-901b. to .40 per lb.
