The Lucknow Sentinel, 1988-10-26, Page 10Page 10—Lucknow Sentinel, Wednesday, October 26, 1988 The 27th annual rally of West Huron Region of Huron Perth Presbyterial was held at Auburn United Church on Wednes- day October 5 with 75 signing the register. "Partners on God's Earth" was the theme for the day. June Peck, regional president, welcom- ed everyone and introduced the secretary for the day, Hazel Hackett. A sing song was conducted by Marjorie McDougall and Bernice Gross of Auburn. June Peck affered prayer. Joyce Bean, President of Auburn United Church Women, welcomed everyone who came and gave a reading entitled "Jobs of Farm Wives" which was humorous. Verna Burgin, vice president of Presbyterial brought greetings and made the following announcements: • annual meeting is January 23 at Vic- toria Street United Church, Goderich, snow date is Feb. 20. • there is a workshop at Mitchell on Feb. 11 from 9:30 am to 8 pm; save your Camp- bell Soup labels and send them to Susan McGregor in Exeter. This is to help the blind. • the refugee that the group is sponsor- ing has a home and needs clothing and household articles - anyone having such things can contact the Rev. L. Ramirez of Blyth United Church. June Peck reminded everyone of their reports to be sent to her. The minutes of last year's meeting were approved as written by Eveline Webster and Verna Robertson. Grace Drummond gave the treasurer's report along with the proposed budget for 1989. Susan Howson of Blyth introduced her assistant, Brenda Radford from Londesboro. Susan Howson gave her book report and announced these books are to be on display in the basement of the church. A very humorous skit was put on by Ben - miller U.C.W. members representing the Human Race in a court room drama on how our lives are endangered. Various members portrayed the unborn, the wildlife, forest and plants, farmers of the world, parks and recreation activities, commerce and finance. The Jury's verdict was the,,bfiman race was guilty of destroy- ing the plant earth. Mr. Ramirez sang a solo in his native language. Annabelle Armstrong of Don- nybrook gave the Bible Study on Earth. The Auburn ladies prepared a delicious smorgasbord lunch. The Dungannon U.C.W. was responsible for the devotions. The scripture lesson was read by Gloria Pearson. Margaret Err- ington offered prayer. . Karen Roberts gave the meditation on "Being Neighbours". The roll call on a Bible verse using earth was answered by U.C.W. groups from Auburn, Benmiller, Blyth, Don- nybrook, Dungannon, Goderich North Street, Goderich Victoria Street, Holmesville, Nile and Trinity. Benmiller extended an invitation to everyone for next year's rally. June Peck introduced the incoming President, Eileen Hanna of Donnybrook. Brian Ireland of the Queen's Bush Ministry was guest speaker. Rby Ab Wylds IPLEY By TERRY HUNT Carol Fludder has been for several visits to OWen Sound Hospital in the past weeks to see Ab Wylds. After visiting him this Satur- day she reports that he is in good spirits and wishes to thank all those who have called, visited or sent cards. Ab is feeling a lot bet- ter and hopes to back in Ripley soon. Ripley misses Aby Wylds as much as Ab Wylds misses Ripley. Special graduation ceremony Ripley Huron Central School was the set- ting for an unusual graduation ceremony Monday October 17th. The Ripley Tops Club had a special graduation for Etta Dickeson for successfully losing 56 pounds to reach her goal and become a KOPS (Someone who Keeps Off Pounds Sensibly). The evening consisted of special music, readings and a skit, all in honour of our most recent KOPS. Leader Jan Fludder and area Captain Phylis Blake presented Etta with a corsage, banner, her diploma, graduate pin and a gift. The program ended with the ceremonial circle of light. All in all the even- ing was a great success and we hope to have more such events in the near future. Can anyone help him? Attends Homecoming weekend Dr. John D. Munn and his wife attended the Homecoming weekend and reunion of his medical class at the University of Western Ontario where he was celebrating the golden anniversary commemorating fif- ty years since graduation in 1938. During his academic years, he was chosen to join the Osler's Society, a prestigious society that accepts only the four top students in the fourth year in medicine ac- cording to their academic standing. In his fifth year he was awarded the scholarship in obstetrics and gynecology. Dr. Munn interned at the Hamilton General Hospital and ,the Toronto General Hospital following graduation. Post graduate studies in the specialty of radiology were made in Boston. In 1946 he joined the medical staff of the Hospital for Sick Children as the director of radiology. Twenty-two years later in semi -retirement he became the director of radiology at the Orthopedic and Arthritic Hospital in Toron- to. He is a charter member of the medical staff of the Ontario Crippled Children's Hospital (now called the Hugh MacMillan Medical Centre). Dr. Munn now resides at his farm at Blair's Grove. Have the family practice "putting each other out" by rolling one another up in blankets, rugs or towels. The worst thing you can do if your 7lothes are on fire is run for help.
