The Lucknow Sentinel, 1988-10-26, Page 3Tourism committee The regular meeting of the Lucknow Tourism Committee was held October 17 in the Town Hall. Brian Knechtel chaired the meeting. Richard Askes ,was installed as treasurer. Richard reported that the Lucknow Business Association made a donation of $500 to the tourism commit- teee. An account is to be opened at the Bank of Montreal, with all cheques being signed by the treasurer and secretary. Joan Pollard is to -contact Jiin Bain and Mrs. Fisher as well as the Village of Lucknow regarding the location of a direc- tory sign on the fence between the properties. The secretary reorted that Reeve Clark had informed her that George Gibson is head of the property committee and is looking into ways of having the litter pick- ed up off the street. The group thought perhaps a slogan on the garbage cans would be an incentive to keep the streets litter free. A discussion Mowed on having a lighted sign with Local activities posted would be of .interest to tourist and local residents. Richard Askes will contact people to see if something of this nature could be located in a central area. Rick McArthur informed the group that he had contacted Paul McKessock and the cost of joining the Grey Bruce Tourist Assocciation is $125 which includes memberhip and a listing in the associa- tions magazine which is distributed to a wide area. A motion was passed to join the association. It was agreed upon that signs should be erected to point to the parking lot on Willoughby Street. The December meeting will be cancelled due to Christmas. The next meeting is the third Monday of November. Rec programs set and ready • from page 1 check with your doctor before starting this game. For the winter months the following prices have been set: adults (over 14 years) $2.00 and under 14 $1.00. Court ren- tal is for 45 minutes, but according to Bill Hunter newcomers probably won't last that long. The program should be in order by spr- ing and at the time fees will be adjusted accordingly. Volleyball Co-ed volleyball started last Wednesday evening at Lucknow Public School with 18 taking part in the non-competetive fun. These fun evenings will continue until Christmas time when the program will be reviewed regarding continuation of same. Christine Gibson is in charge of this pro- gram which runs Wednesdays, 8:30 to 10 p,m. A nominal fee is charged to cover administration. Hockey Nine hockey teams, with approximately 140 registered will set the pace on the minor hockey scene this winter. Most divi- sions have two teams. The schedules are set up, ice is being made and the season should open around November 5. As usual, Bill Hunter has a serious pro- blem with getting volunteer help to assist on some teams. The Atom and Pee Wee teams could really use the help of some in- terested parents or non -parents. You don't have to have a child registered on a hockey team to lend assistance. All that is re- quired is an interest in the youth of our community. If you are reading this now and are thinking "yes, I would like to work with some kids on a hockey team" get off Lucknow Sentinel, Wednesday, October 26, 1988—Page 3 Squash anyone—the court is ready and Lloyd Graham and Walter Arnold try out their expertise prior to the organizational meeting held last week to form a squash court executive.
