The three afternoon units of the
Lucknow United Church met in the
Fellowship room on Tuesday October 4th
where over 40 ladies enjoyed a luncheon of
soup and sandwiches prior to the meeting.
The room was decorated with a "horn of
plenty" arrangement for Thanksgiving.
Marion MacFarlane chaired the
meeting and she gave several an-
nouncements, The Thankoff,ering
envelopes are to be returned at the
November meeting. Each Unit presented
the collection they had gathered of the
Least Coin, and these were dedicated by
Mrs. MacFarlane.
We opened with a Harvest hymn. Jean
Conlay read the Scripture. The Worship
Service "Count your many Blessings" was
presented by the following readers - Mary
Black, Laura Hare, Jean Conley,
Marion MacFarlane and Elleda Irwin. The
verse and chorus of this hymn were sung
between each of the readers. Edna Mac-
Donald gave a reading "Having a
an u heart is the reason or
Thanksgiving". We sang another
Thanksgving hymn and Elsie Houston was
the pianist. Mrs. MacFarland gave the
closing prayer.
We separated for our separate unit
business,
Unit 3 met in the church parlour. Mrs.
Bolt gave the treasurer's report. Offering
was taken and dedicated. Fourteen
members answered the roll call with a
verse with "Thanks". The minutes were

Least Coin was gathered and we repeated
the Least Coin prayer. Mrs. Hunter
secured help and food for the Fowl Supper
on October 18th.
We closed the meeting with all repeating
the U.C.W. Benediction.
Unit 2 .
On Tuesday, October 4, Units 1, 2 and 3
met in the Fellowship Room of Lucknow
United Church for soup and sandwiches
served by the Committee in charge. A
social time was enjoyed followed by a very
interesting program.
Each unit then retired to their appointed
area.
Rollcall "something we are thankful
for" was answered' by 16 members.
Marion McFarlane chaired the meeting.
Pennies were collected and the prayer of
the Least Coin ,repeated.
The collection was taken and the birth-
day jar passed for two birthdays, namely,
Jean McLeod and Marion McFarlane.
Visits were reported and all were pleas-
ed to hear that Mrs. Jardine was home
from the hospital.
The plans for the fowl supper were
discussed.
A short discussion was held on the
refusal to repeat the Lord's Prayer in
schools.
Marion McFarlane then described a
Native baptism which she had attended
while on vacation.
Unit 4
Unit 4 of Lucknow United Church
Women met on October 4 with an atten-
dance of 22. The rollcall was answered
with a Proverb.
The theme for the program was
Thanksgiving. Mrs. Bob Campbell presid-
ed, opening with a poem:
The scripture was read by Mrs. Cliff
Crawford. Mrs. Ken Cameron gave the
meditation with Mrs. Campbell reading a
poem, Happiness.
Prayer by Mrs. George Whitby closed
the devotions. Mrs. Gerald McFarlane
gave a reading, Mother's Bible.
Mrs. Campbell introduced Mrs. Jim
Boyle, who had been on a holiday this past
summer to the far North.
The first week was spent with her sister,
Mrs. John Schmidt (Margaret Salkeld) of
Standard, Alberta, where they enjoyed a
hiking holiday in the mountains.
Mrs. Boyle, accompanied by her sister,
then flew to Yellowknife, North West Ter-
ritories, where they spent three days tour-
' ing the city of 11,000. They then joined a
tour group flying in over the Arctic Circle
to Bathurst Inlet, where they enjoyed a six
day naturalist holiday.
Mrs. Boyle delighted the group with her
commentary and pictures, showing
beautiful scenery, as well as barren land
and rock, where they studied the different
birds, animals and flowers. She described
the weather conditions and related many
experiences while hiking and sightseeing
on the small islands.
Mrs. Campbell expressed thanks to Mrs.
Boyle and closed the program with prayer.
Mrs. George McBride unit leader,
presided for the business, opening with a
poem.
Mrs. Bob Finlay conducted the
Fellowship of the Least Coin. The group
formed a circle, joining hands for the
prayer of dedication.
Mrs. Ken Cameron gave the treasurer's
report and Mrs. Crawford reported for
community friendship. Mrs. Cayley
reported for amnesty.
The social committee requested food
donations and workes for the turkey sup-
per to be held on October 18.
Mrs, McBride closed the meeting with
prayer and a social time followed.
