The September meeting of Kairshea
W.I. was held Sept. 29th at the home of Una
Matthews.
After singing the Opening Ode and
repeating the Mary Stewart Collect, Betty
Finlayson read the Scripture, Psalm 96.
The president, Irene Haldenby, gave a
good, quotation "In looking at a doughnut
the optimist sees the doughnut and the
pessimist sees the hole." and then welcom-
ed all to the meeting.
The minutes and correspondence were
read by Wanda Keith. An invitation was
received to attend the 80thAnniversary of
Lucknow W.I. to be held Oct. 11 at &'p.m.
Mariap MacKinnon gave the treasurer's
report. The piano and copper boiler from
the Kairshea Hall have been sold.
The County Rally will be held in Under-
wood on Oct. 20. Delegates are Wanda
Keith and Una Matthews. For the Area
Convention in Hepworth Oct. 28, delegates
are Irene Haldenby and Alice Doelman.
Roely de Boer brought the 4-H books that
members had made for their last course.
These were well done and all seemed to
have enjoyed their camping experience.
Sheila Clark took the chair for the pro-
gram. All stood and joined her in a rowing
song before she introduced the first
speaker, Jim Lang, Deputy Clerk of the
town of Wingham. He showed a video film
by Dr. David Suzuki which dealt with gar-
bage disposal and its effect on the environ-
ment. The speaker also told how Wingham
is using the blue boxes to collect recyclable
materials. More information on 'Reduce,
Reuse; Recycle and Recover' was passed
out to members.
The second speaker was Rhea Hamilton-
Seiger, councillor for the Township of West
Wawanosh. She told how they were collec-
ting recyclable cans, bottles and
newspapers in a large bin at the Waste
Disposal Site. They are receiving good co-
operation from township residents.
Kinloss Township Reeve, Barry
Johnston, added his comments and thank-
ed the W.I. for inviting him to this meeting.
Maimie Roulston reported that $275 had
been collected for the Arthritis Society and
Ripley
WMS
The afternoon Group of Ripley Knox,
Women's Missionary Society met at Huron
Villa for the September meeting. President
Mrs. Adeline Hackett opened with words of
welcome and a poem, "Harvest Home"
followed with a prayer. The aim and pur-
pose repeated in unison and a minute's
silence for two deceased members Mrs.
W.J. McKay and Mrs. J.A. MacDonald was
held.
The roll call a "verse on Harvest" was
answered by nine members.
. Any donations for the bale to be left at
Noreen MacDonald's by Sept. 15.
Mrs. Hazel MacDonald reported it was
time to renew scriptions to the Glad Tidings.
Mrs. Nugent had the Program, she spoke
on "Christianity in Russia" she displayed a
map to show how large a c untry Russia is.
Their main religion is Orthodox and
Molsem. She had a number of icons depic-
ting Christian life as the Orthodox see it. She
closed with the reading of hymn 371 0 spirit
of the living God in unison.
Thank yous were read for memorials and
cards signed for members in hospital.

Whitechurch as guest speaker was read.
Mrs. Hackett thanked Mrs. Nugent and
Mrs. Mary Brown who prepared lunch.
thanked those who had canvassed. Maimie
also gave information on the poster contest
for schools and this was discussed.
Reid's Corners W.I. are sponsoring a bus
trip to the craft show in Toronto Nov. 29
and invited members of Kairshea to join
them.
The roll call was - "In what ways can
W.I. influence legislation". The majority
thought the best way was by passing good
resolutions.
Ann MacDougall gave the courtesies to
which the hostess replied.
The meeting was closed with the singing
of O'Canada and the Institute Grace.
Lunch was served by the hostess and
directors. Ann MacDougall and Marian
MacKinnon.
