New squash court tested and ready for action
Anyone stopping by the Lucknow Sports
Complex can easily see the advancements
being carried out at the facility but, accor-
ding to Recreation Director Bill Hunter,
there are a' number of plans on the go
which the public may not yet be aware of.
The new recreation room, complete with
squash court, is complete and the court
has already been tested. Residents in the
area are now welcome to use the enclosed
court. A nominal introductory fee will be
charged at this tune until a squash court
executive is formed.
The formation of this executive will
begin with an organizational meeting to be
held Tuesday, October 18 at the arena star-
ting at 8 p.m.
Anyone interested in this sport is urged
to attend as a demonstration of the work-
ings of the game will be included in the
agenda.
Also, there are plans to form a squash
committee from the ranks of the executive
which will work closely with the Recrea-
tion Department to give input on such
topics as charges, scheduling of times., etc.
The Rec. Department is looking for local
representatives to form the executive

This squash court is the only one in the
area Currently, squash enthusiasts must
travel to either Kincardine or P. ' • -orst,,
to play.
While the future may see Lucknow ui aw-
:ng players from Wingham'and Goderich,
Bill Hunter feels there is more than enough
interest locally to keep the facility busy,
"From the indication I've gotten," says
Mr, Hunter, "I don't imagine it's going to
be slow at anytime."
Lucknow Minor Hockey
With a brand new season of hockey just
about to get underway, there is still lots of
work to be done. The first minor hockey
meeting of the year was held recently and,
to no one's surprise, it was revealed that
there is a great need for coaches again this
year.
The Lucknow Minor Hockey system has
produced two more teams than were pre -
.sent last season and anyone with a interest
in the game and helping local kids enjoy' it,
are asked to contact the Rec. Department
as soon as pp Bible. Assistant coaches are
r+leu
needed
'.• You know, we've got all these kids sign-
ed up to play hockey," laments Mr. Hunter
from his new office at the arena, "and we
still don't have enough fellas to help coach
them."
The coaching of young boys playing
hockey i ery important to any communi-
ty, All you need is a little enthusiasm and
some time to donate, the Rec. Department
will help you take care of the necessary
certificates required.
Ice at the arena will Mart to form on the
concrete floor of the building this weekend
when the ice plant is kicked into action.
Skate -top flooring is expected to be in
place between the dressing rooms as early
as next week.
Volleyball anyone?
The Lucknow Rec. Department is in-
troducing volleyball to area residents this
winter. The games will be played at the
Lucknow Public School starting Wednes-
day,, October 19 at 8:30 p.m.
The volley play will be gearedre,
yount7 adults 18 and over and wtil bt

There will be a small administrative ft•t
charged to particiapte and a good time t'
guaranteed for all. According to M1:
Hunter, the evenings will be played once
per week for about five months and will be
"a time for fun, fellowship and hudy
conditioning".
Christine Gibson, a qualified recrea-
tionalist, will run the volleyball clinics and
she is available, for futher i' -motion, at
395-2766. All you have to do pray is show
up at the school wearing your sneakers,
As you can see, not all the work at the
arena is happening with hammers and
nails. While there is still quite a bit of work
to be done on finishing the fadiltiy,
especially outside work, it appears
Lucknow will have -a jam packed winter of
activites for all to enjoy. No matter what
you interest- aerobics, squash, hockey or
figure skating- you'll find it has a place at
the new Sports Complex.
