After a bountiful noon meal, the vice- president, Jim . Finnigan, welcomed everyone. A minute's silence was observed in memory of those no longer with us. Regrets were expressed because Marie Morrison, a faithful attender, aged 92 years, was unable to attend as she is a pa- tient in the Winghatn and District Hospital. Myrtle Johnstone had a display of infor- mation and pictures on family history which proved very interesting. She also had some copies of the book "Sherwood of the Valley" for sale. • Tickets were sold on a floral arrange- ment and two mugs. These were won by Cora B. Sherwood, Myrtle Johnstone and Mary Finnigan. After a few words from Myrtle Johnstone, a recipe exchange, which prov- ed very popular, was held by Anne McInnes. Contests and games were in charge of Grace and Jim Finnigan. The oldest per- son present was Myrtle Johnstone; the youngest child was Kevin Finnigan, the longest married couple, Mary and Lloyd Burt family picnic The 19th annual Burt family picnic and reunion was held Saturday, July 16, at the Hanover Memorial Park with 43 members attending. Under hot, sunny skies swimmers en- joyed the pool, then Julia McKnight and Tracy Haskett conducted the sports. Mark Carignan won the three legged race; Ken Holcombe won the clothing race; Tanya. Holcombe won the potato sack race and June Bradley won the orange race. Rose Burt and Laurie Bradley won the count on the two jelly bean jars. Bill Burt gave grace before a bountiful potluck supper was enjoyed. A short business meeting was chaired by Irene Priest. Congratulations were given to Laurie and Andre Mousseau who were married in December and to Terry and Judy Burt who were married in May. Sixty-fifth birthday gifts wee given to Lou Carignan, Bob and. Rose Burt and Mildred Burt. A get well card was signed by everyone for Bern Norris who has been a patient in Sunnybrook Hospital for the past three years. Nancy Lewis read the minutes of the last meeting. Norma Carignan gave the treaturer's report. The 1988 executive was elected as follows: president, Ken Holcombe; vice president, Mark Carignan; secretary, Nancy Lewis; treasurer, Norma Carignan; food and beverage, Rose Burt and Lois McKnight; sports committee, George and Sue Burt. The 1989 Picnic will be held July 15 at the Hanover Park. Riddell BBQ The popular Jack Riddell annual family barbecue, which last year attracted about 1,000 persons, will be held again this year on the Riddell Farm on Wednesday, August 3, starting at 5 p.m. Mr. Riddell, who is the MPP for Huron and the Ontario Minister of Agriculture and Food, has held the barbecue on his farm for four years running. Along with featuring Ontario and locally grown pro- duce, the annual affair also showcases a number of county entertainers. Included in the talent show are two young peoples' theatre groups from the Huron Country Playhouse and the Blyth Summer Festival Theatre; the dancing McGee Sisters from Zurich; Blyth piper Rick Elliott; and back by popular demand, the No Notes Jug Band from Goderich. Supper is being served from 5 to 8 p.m., while the talent show starts at 6:30 p.m. Cost is only $10 for adults, $4 for elemen- tary school aged children and free to pre- schoolers.
