Wingham will host Sportsfest this year
This year the Lake Huron Zone Recrea-
tion Association's "Sportsfest" will be
hosted by the town of Wingham, August 19, ,
20 and 21.
"Sportsfest" is a weekend festival of
sports and recreational activities for peo-
ple of all ages, groups and interests. The
events are designed tb promote fun,
fellowship and good sportsmanship, with
the emphasis on participation rather than
competition.
It is anticipated that almost 3,000 people
will be participating in over 25 different
events - water polo, outdoor badminton,
bridge, swimming, lawn darts, lawn bowl-
ing, skeet shooting, basketball, t -ball,
shoot, a canoe -portage race, trail riding,
2 -ball golf, coed 3 -pitch baseball, ball

Adult lessons begin Tuesday, July 5 - $1.25 a lesson
Parent and Tots begin Tuesday, July 5 - 250 a parent, 50C a child
Ladies' exercise class includes special exercises done in sha' v water
You do not need to know how to swim to participate in this fitness program. Enrollment is limited to
25 members. Cost will be $20.00 for the summer ($1.50/lesson). Please register Monday, July 4 before
class.
Aquafit is an exercise program in which participants aim to improve their cardio vascular fitness through
aerobic exerdises. Aquafit classes begin Tuesday, July 5. Cost will be $25.00 for the summer
Bronze and Bronze Cross classes begin Monday, July 4 - $22.00 for the season
Swim Team is $5.00 for the season which begins Tuesday, July 5. .

hockey, tennis, nature walks, orienteering,
horseshoes, skateboarding, flag football,
darts, radio operated cars, soccer, out-
door volleyball, crokinole, chess,
checkers, and shuffleboard.
For those of you who are a little hesitant
to participate in a new sport or leisure ac-
tivity, many of the events offered during
this weekend will include introductory`ses-
sions. These sessions are designed to help
ease you into enjoying a new sport.
All participants who register for any of
the events will receive a recreation -
oriented gift in acknowledgement of their
efforts to help make Sportsfest a weekend
of fun, fellowship and good sportsmanship.
Should you not wish to actually par-
ticipate in a particular event, there will
always be room for onlookers to help cheer
team members on, as well as browse
through Wingham's cultural centres and
shops.
Plenty of opportunities will exist for you
to discuss the day's events with team
members or new found friends at the
seniors, adult, teen or pre -teen dances;
over a cup of coffee and a delicious pan-
cake breakfast; or by an evening campfire
at the Sportsfest campground.
The registration deadline to participate
in this fun -filled weekend is July 14, 1988,
so be sure to mark your calendar today.

mation can be picked up at your local
municipal or recreation office or by con-
tacting Joelle Reavie at the Wingham
Recreation Office, 357-1208.
The Lucknow Crystalizers Slo-Pitch
team recently donated $150 to minor
baseball in the area. Larry MacPherson
took 1tec. Director Bill Hunter all the way
to homeplate to make the presentation.

Lucknow UCW
The general meeting of the UCW was
held on June 14 in the fellowship room.
Lois Walden chaired the meeting and gave
the meditation.
Donna McBride read the scripture
reading and Mildred Cameron gave the
prayer. Anna Mae Hunter gave a reading.
Several hymns were sung with Elsie
Houston at the piano. The offering was
taken by Alice Ritchie and Mary Black.
Prayer was offered by Lois.
Ruth Wolfe of the Bruce Presbytery
Resource Centre was the guest speaker.
She displayed several books and literature
helpful to all the different units. Her
display and talk proved most interesting.
She was thanked and presented with a gift
by Marion McFarlane. •
Laura Lee Cayley presided for the
business. The budget was reviewed 'and
business dealt with. Laura Lee wished all a
good summer holiday and all will meet
again in September. The meeting closed
with the benediction.
