Lucknow plays host to
Bruce County Council
The Lucknow Village Council played
host to the June meeting of the Bruce
County Council on Monday and Tuesday of
this week. About 35 members of the council
spent the two warm days attending to
business on the upper floor of the Lucknow
Town Hall.
Seated on the brand new chairs recently
purchased by the Village Council
specifically for this meeting, County Coun-
cilors spent most of Monday giving and
hearing a variety of committee reports.
Tuesday brought a day of heated discus-
sion on the ..reports and proposals
presented the day before.
Lunches and dinners were provided for
all attending the meeting at the Lucknow
Legion.
Since the meeting was still going strong
at press time, expect a complete report of
the proceedings in next week's Sentinel.
Village Council meeting
Reeve Herb Clark chaired the regular
June meeting of the Lucknow Village
Council on Tuesday of last week at the
Town Hall. Minutes of the May meetings of
Council were read and approved before
current business was undertaken.
Library Advisory Council Represen-
tatives Bernice Johnstone and Lorna Guay
waited on Council. They attended in sup-
port of a letter dated June 8 requesting an
air conditioner for the Lucknow Library.
After discussing the matter, Council
agreed to look further into the matter with
the County and gave their support should
the libary decide to approach local service
clubs for funding.
Council moved and carried a motion to
support the decision of the Business
Association, should one be made, regar-
ding the opening of stores on July 1 and Ju-
ly 3.
The budget for the Celebrate in '88 Reu-
nion was presented to Council and discuss-
ed. No further action was needed or taken
in this regards.
It was also noted that a formal notifica-
tion for the Lucknow Sewage Works ap-
peared in the June 1 issue of the Lucknow
Sentinel. This is the 30 -day Public Review
for written comments.
Na further quotes
It was noted at the meeting that no fur-
ther quotes have been received by Council
for construction of the Town Hall steps. It
was decided to hold this matter over until
after next week's Lucknow Reunion.
A motion was carried showing that
Council supports the resolution of the
Township of Lindsay to schedule a meeting
with the Bruce County School Board to
justify the appointments and requisitions.
Tom Andrew waited on Council Tuesday
evening and stated that a lawyer was
preparing an agreement for water service
to Ashfield residents. Council to date have
had no correspondance with Ashfield in
this matter.
Mr. Andrew was advised that replace-
ment of watermains with a larger size re-
quires Ministry of Environment approval
and that Council would deal with this mat-
ter when the agreement is received.
The Bruce County Council held their June meeting upstairs in the Lucknow Town
Hall on Monday and Tuesday of this week. With new tables and chairs bought just for
the purpose, the councillors attended to business in the hot weather, and took their
meals at the Legion Hall. Hete, Lucknow Reeve Herb Clark listens intently to a com-
mittee report while getting a first `hand' feel for the new chairs. (Rob Bundy photo)

It's time to put on our best appearances for next week's Celebrate in '88 Reunion.
All around the village, home and store owners are cleaning, painting, decorating and
preparing for a fun filled long weekend. Jim Bain took on the task of painting the out-
side wall of his shop on Monday, and got a little supervisory help from wee Star. She
used the ladder to get a real close look at Jim's handl-work. When the inspection was
finished, Star said Jim did "Alright". (Rob Bundy photo)
Ready for the reunion?
The countdown is on! The main street is
taking on a new look with businesses
decorating their windows, hanging flowers
and the decorating committee adding col-
ourful touches to the planters. Some of the
windows are very interesting and a walk
down the street has turned into an intrigu-
ing adventure.
To date no names have been received for
the dunking tank. Any volunteers! Anyone
out there who would love to havpthe
satisfaction of dumping someone ino the
water? Drop your names into the Sentinel
or at Lucknow Cut and Curl.
