It's sixty years for
Whitechurch W.I.
4H NEWS
The Whitechurch Nature Nuts held a
meeting June 4 at 9 a.m. at Mrs. Elliott's
home.
They prepared their book covers and
planned their achievement night for June
21, at Purple Grove. They made plans for a
nature hike in Jim Ross' bush by the river
and discussed snacks for hiking.
Steven Rintoul read the minutes. They
' opened with the pledge and closed with the
motto.
The next meeting was June 7 at 5 p.m.
with their outing in the bush. Kathy Dow
had a scavenger hunt. They played games
called Puppie, Kitten and Sardine. They
had supper of hot dogs, smores and mar-
shmallows on the fire. The members
brought "gorp" which is a combination of
raisins, chipits, dryed fruit, mar-
shmallows, nuts and bolt, etc.
Dessert was butterscotch brownies.
They put out their fire and walked back to
their starting point.
Whitechurch W.I.
The Whitechurch Women's Institute held
its 60th anniversary celebration in the
Whitechurch Hall on Wednesday June 8 at
Noon with a hot meal catered and served
by the Donnybrook U.C.W. ladies. There
were 75 guests.
After a lovely meal, the meeting opened
with the opening ode, Mary Stewart Col-
bert, and the Lord's Prayer. President
Mrs. Helen Currie welcomed everyone and
introduced the head table guests. Mrs.
Agnes Farrier read the organizational
meeting and the first regular meeting held
in Forester's Hall on February, 28, 1928.
Mrs. Russel McGuire gave the
Memoriam of those who have passed away
since it was started.
An enjoyable instrumental on the elec-
tric keyboard was given by Doris Bradley.
Mrs. Norma Rintoul gave a resume of the
60 years of history of the Whitechurch W.I.
A sing -a -long with Mrs. Jean Rossat the
°piano sang The Institute Anniversac'y
Song.
The guest speaker was Mrs. Eleanor
Bridge of Palmerston, an image and beau-
ty consultant who told the ladies how to
find their best colours to wear etc. She was
thanked by Mrs. Jean Ross and presented
with a gift.
The cake cutting ceremony was held and
pictures were taken with Merle Wilson, a
charter member; Gertie Durnin, a first-
year member and president, Helen Currie.
Greetings were ' expressed from the
District Branches. Mrs. Gladys Arnold
from Ripley spoke a few words about
years gone by in the Institute.

and ice cream was served to all, which
drew an enjoyable afternoon to a close.
Local News
Guests with Mildred McClenaghan last
week were Rev. Wm. Henderson from
Lucknow; Bruce and Doris Coloman from
Vancouver and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Mc-
Clenaghan. They spent the evening
reminising.
Richard Day from Waterloo spent the
week end with his parents Mr. and Mrs.
Tom Day.
Mrs. Don Ross, Mrs. Walter Elliott ,
Karen Elliott, Mrs. Neil Rintoul and ten
children attended the W.M.S. Children's
Rally at Kintail Presbyterian camp on
Wednesday June -8.
Mr. and Mrs. Angus Falconer visited on
Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. Kevin
Falconer and Jackie of Exeter.
Attending the Bluevale, U.C.W. open
night on Sunday evening were Rev. and
Mrs. John Neilson, Mr. and Mrs. Dave
Gibb, Gertie Durnin, Mildred Mc-
Clenaghan, John McKinnon and Mrs.
Agnes Farrier. Miss Raynard from the
group home in Wingham was the speaker.
Mildred McClenaghan and John McKin-,
non took Mr, and Mrs. Bruce Coloman to
see the Bruce Nuclear Plant at 'Douglas
Point. Bruce was at the present site 15
years ago with nine other men from B.C. to
see about a possibility of building one on
Nanaimo, B.C. which never developed.
Everyone was pleased to see Mrs. Valet-
ta Emerson able to attend the 60th an-
niversary dinner of the Whitechurch In-
stitute on Wednesday. Valetta was a
faithful worker in the Institute for many
years. A lot of people benefited from her
knowledge and she was always ready to
help anyone who asked for it.
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence McClenaghan of
Kincardine were taken up to Owen Sound
Hospital on Wednesday by Mildred Mc-
Clenaghan and John McKinnon where
Clarence had some surgery one one eye.
Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Sholtz of Goderich
visited with Mrs. Gertrude Durnin on Sun-
day and attended the United church
anniversary.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Mass of Platsville
visited with Mr. and Mrs. Carl Mc-
Clenaghan on the week end.
The Whitechurch Women's Institute celebrated its 60th Anniversary last Wednes-
