Grade 5/6
Mr. Spittals Grade 5/6 class has been
learning about Captain James Cook and
the West coast Indians. Recently they had
a test on him. They have also started a new
unit called Trees and Woodlots. Their class
went to Wawanosh to study about map
orienteering. Finally they would like to say
Happy.Birthday to Jocelyn Logtenberg on
June 4 and to Tenille Cranston on June 25.
Grade 6, Room 7
Mrs. Tebbut's Gr. 6 class is writing to
world leaders such as Brian Mulroney,
Mikhail- Gorbachev and Ronald Reagan.
They are urging them to work for peace.
Grade 7
They are getting ready to go camping at
Camp Menesetung.
Mrs. Graham is going to be helping them
build sand castles down at the beach.
After, they are going to the to the O.P.P.
station.
All week long they have been getting
things ready and packed. They also have
been practicing orienteering around the
school with compasses.
Grade 8
On Friday in French the students had
crepes, mousse du chocolate, croissants
and grapes. Two people in the class had
chose to do their topics on "French
cruisine". So they had the opportunity to
try some of French cruisine. The students
of their class really enjoyed it.
Sports News
On Wednesday June 1, Brookside
students competed in a regional track
meet in Goderich. They had a great day
and brought back plenty of ribbons. Con-
gratulations to all competitors. Special
congratulations to Traci Curran who tied
for first place in the intermediate girls
division.
New Teachers
Clayton Cober will be Vice Principal.
Dixie Lee Arbuckle will be teaching
French. There will also be a new half-time
French teacher, Donna Woodall. The new
Phys. Ed. teacher will be Cathy Rennie.
Jane Morton will, be teaching Grade 3.
This year's public speaking contest at Brookside included not only speaches, but
also poems, songs and skits. The winners in the Grades Four to Eight classes includ-
ed, front, left to right: Julia Poganatz, first in Grade Six; Katrina Collins, Second in
Grade Four and Nichole Sberratt, third in Grade Sia. At the hack are Jane Brophy,
first in Grade Seven; Joy Forna, second in Grade Seven, and Jennifer Redmond, third

Students at Brookside Public School participated in their annual public speaking
contest last week and when the speaking was done, the top three speakers in the
various grade divisions were presented with medallions for their efforts. The top
three students in the Kindergarten class were, left to right front row, Brad Hickey,
first; Bridget Hogan, second; and Marcie Riegling, third. In the second row is
Mathew Dalton, third in Grade Three; Jacob Miltenburg, second in Grade One;
Jilltan Robertson, third in Grade One; John VanDiepenbeek, first in Grade One; and
Amanda Hickey, first in the Grade Three class. The third row shows Mark Van-
Dienenbeek, third in Grade Two; Evan Hickey, first in Grade Two, and Josh Martin,
second in Grade Two. At the very back silt Wesley Hackett who placed second in the
