St. Andrew's United reaches anniversary day
St. Andrews Celebrates Anniversary
Last Sunday, June 5 was the 1988 anniver-
sary day at both the 11:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.
in St. Andrew's United Church in Ripley.
Rev. Margaret Bain of Hanover took both
the morning and evening services. At the
evening service she was joined by the
Hanover Quartette.
Hospital Tea on June 14
Ripley Women's Institute met at the home
of Don and Anna MacTavish last Friday,
June 3 at 1:30 p.m. Dessert was served by
Marian McTavish and Margaret Gemmell.
President Minnie Lock announced the
hospital tea is to be held in the Ripley Legion
Hall on June 14 from 2 to 4 p.m. An invitation
to Reid's Corners W.I. Anniversary was
read.
Each member replied to the roll call with
a story, joke or musical number.
Zilla Hedley, District Director reported
the District Annual held in Ripley in May.
She was assisted by Annie Scott and Sadie
McLeod. Frances Nugent gave the
courtesies. Plans were made for the In-
stitute Group display at the Ripley Fall Fair
on Friday and Saturday the last of
September. Adelene Martyn was the pianist
for the meeting. Thanks to Margaret Gem-
mell for this account.
Mass held
for Knights
St. Augustine Parish Hosted the Father
Michael McCormack Council 9484 Knights
of Columbus Communion Breakfast. Mass
was celebrated by Father Frank
Dentinger.
Altar boys were Maurice Delbergue,.
Darrell, Kevin, Patrick, Jamie and Ryan
Hallahan. Lectors were Neil Stapleton and
Walter Stalenhoef. Ushers and gift bearers
were Ron Delbergue and James Finleon.
Eucharistic Ministers were Raymond and
Leona Boyle. Organists were Mary
Catherine and Maureen Stapleton. Mary
Catherine was trumpet soloist and accom-
panied Renee Stalenhoef as she sang a
beautiful rendition of Alleluia.
There were thirteen fourth degree
Knights from neighbouring councils who
formed an honour guard.
It being Corpus Christi Sunday, a proces-
sion and Benediction of the Blessed Sacra-
ment was held on the church lawn.
This was followed by a luncheon m the
church basement. Master of ceremonies
was Cyril Boyle. Father Frank Dentinger
asked the blessing before the meal. Rene
Brochu District Deputy brought greetings
from the State Board. He announced the
Neil Stapleton family were voted Family
of the, Year and the award was presented
to the Father McCormack Council at the
state convention.
Bill Van Osch presented Clarise Dalton
with a donation from the council to help
promote the work of the Pro -Life Group.
Clarise made a fitting reply and asked for
continued support.
The ladies of the Catholic Women's
League under the direction of their presi-
dent Agnes Delbergue served a delicious
meal. Neil Stapleton thanked the ladies.
Emma Franken replied on their behalf.
Grand Knight Donald Frayne gave a
report of the state convention and
displayed the plaque which was awarded
to the Family of the Year. He introduced
the guest speaker Father David Przed-
wiecki of St. Peter's Clandeboye who gave
a very informative talk on the Franciscan
Friars and their entry into London Diocese
and to Canada. He was graciously thanked
by Eugene Frayne.
Father Edward Dentinger gave the final
blessing.

Mr. and Mrs. Bill Harris of London spent
the weekend with Margaret and Francis
Gemmell.
Foot Clinic to be Held
V.Q.N. Marg. McIntyre of Point Clark
says that she will hold the foot care clinic at
Huron Villa in Ripley at 1:00 p.m. on June

Happy Hearts hold Picnic
The Ripley Happy Hearts picnic will be
held on Friday June 10 in the Lions Park at
the foot•of the fourth Concession at noon.
Bring a picnic lunch and if directions to
the park are needed, meet at the Legion Hall
in Ripley at 11:30 a.m.

Antiques and Collectables Auctioned
Auctioneer Bob Colhoun held his second
sale of antiques and collectibles in the
Ripley Complex last Saturday with nice
weather for it. Bob is known in the Ripley
area.
Discuss Christmas Decorations
Lion Pres. Grant McDonald of the Ripley
and District Lions Club reports that he held
a meeting at his home on Wed. June 1st with
the committee members Lion Grant ap-
pointed to look into the cost and work involv-
ed in putting up Christmas lighting decora-
tions on Queen and Huron Streets in the
village of Ripley. Committee includes Lions
Klaus Heinisch, Rod MacLennan, Terry
Hunt and Ron' Nicholson, also Councillor
Tom Culbert attended the meeting.
At the stockyards
A light offering of steers and heifers at
the Brussels Stockyards traded on a good
demand at steady prices this week. Cows
traded higher and pigs sold steady.
There were 322 cattle, 466 pigs and 104
sheeps, lambs and goats on offer.
Choice steers sold 90 to 94 with sales to
98.75. Good steers sold 87 to 90.
A steer consigned by Lorne Eadie of RR1
Holyrood, weighing 1240 pounds, sold for
97.75. His total offering of 16 steers averag-
ing 1286 lbs. sold for an average price of
94.62.
Six steers consigned by Bill Sanderson of
RR1 Bluevale, averaging 1250 lbs., sold for
93.51 with sales to 94.50.
Choice exotic heifers sold 87 to 91 with
sales to to 94.25. Good heifers sold 84 to 87.
Six heifers consigned by George Blake of
RR2 Brussels, averaging 1135 lbs., sold for
an average of 91.54 with sales to 93.75.
Fifteen heifers consigned by Glen
Johnston of RR 2 Bluevale, averaging 1030
lbs., sold for an average price of 89.71 with
sales to 92.50.
Pigs 30 to 40 pounds traded to a high of
.89 per pound while pigs 50 to 60 pounds
traded to a high of .98 per pound. Pigs 70 to
80 pounds traded to a high of .73 per pound.
Lambs (per cwt) 50 to 60 pounds to a
high of 135.00; 70 to 80 lbs. traded to a high
of 131.00 while 90 to 100 lbs lambs traded to
a high of 112.
The Brussels Stockyards will' hold
another sheep, lamb and goat sale on Fri-
day, July 8 starting at 3 p.m. For further
