St. Joseph's Parish Choir busy as ever
St. Joseph's Parish Choir has been ex-
ceptionally busy as of late. Beginning on
May 17th, they joined with Goderich's St,
Peter's Choir to provide beautiful and m-
spirational music for the Confirmation
ceremony and mass held that evening.
On Saturday, May 28th they once again
joined voices with St. Peter's Choir to pro-
vide the music for the ordination
ceremony of former Goderich resident,
Michael Doorly and again on Sunday, May
29th, several members of the choir helped
provide the music for newly ordained
Father Doorly's first mass celebrated in
St. Peter's Church, Goderich.
Also on the 29th St. Joseph's choir led m
the singing of hymns in honour of Mary,
our Blessed Mother, as St. Joseph's Parish
held the annual crowning of Mary as May,
the Month of Mary drew to a close. Also
participating in this beautiful ceremony
were the school children who entered in
procession as mass began carrying bou-
quets of flowers which were placed on
Mary's altar during the coronation
ceremony.
Sheila Stright had the honour of perfor-
ming the coronation. The choir now is
preparing for the solemn First Holy Com-
munion ceremony to be held on June 12th.
Laurie Dalton, of St. Joseph's Parish
INGSBRIDGE
PARISYIISCNOOI
by Louise Martin
has, for the past several months been the
organist and choir director at St. Peter's
Goderich for the 11:00 a.m. Sunday mass.
She had the honur and privilege of playing
for the Confirmation, Ordination and
Father Doorly's first mass. Her term as
organist and choir director ended at the
end of May.
Members of the community were
delighted and pleased at the safe return
from Haiti of Clarice Dalton and Elsie
Dykstra of the parish as well as Mia
Dalton who had been in Haiti since
February working among the poor.
Clarice and Elsie were part of a group who
spent 16 days working among the poorest
of the poor where Mia had been working
for the past few months. They report grow-
ing unrest and upheaval and in fact sounds
of gunfire and actual murders were com-
mitted within earshot of where they were
staying.
It is widely believed that there will be
another major uprising in the very near
future against the present regime.
Summer visitors are once again filling
St. Joseph's to almost capacity for Sunday
mass. We extend a warm welcome to all
first time visitors and a happy "welcome
back" to all regular summer visitors and
hope you all have an enjoyable and funfiil-
ed summer.
Congratulations to a young member of
our parish community, Dan Martin a
Grade 12 student and Goderich District
Collegiate Institute who last week was
elected as President of the Student's Coun-
cil for the 1988/89 school year. We wish him
well in all his endeavours.
Staff and students alike have been very
busy over the past couple of weeks with
various activities involving the school. The
playground has benefitted by Load of pea -
stone which proves to pack less tightly
than the previous ground cover and thus a
child is less likely to be hurt as a result of a
fall.
On Wednesday, May 25th the Grade 5/6
class of Miss Tracey Devlin's travelled to
Goderich to view a play called "Health
Spell" while the Senior Girls 2 -Pitch Team
also travelled to Goderich along with them
to participate in a 2 -Pitch, competition at
St. Mary's.
Although the girls were not victorious,
we congratulate them on a job well done.
