Forty gather for annual Johnstone Reunion
Forty descendants of James and Mary
Ann Johnstone gathered at Brookside
Public School for their 12th annual family
reunion Sunday, May 29.
Gordon Johnstone, president of the clan,
welcomed everyone and all sat down to a
bountiful smorgasbord meal.
The young people went outside for some
activities and games, led by David Dadson
in the absence of Mrs. Janet Wilkins. The
adults remained for a short business
meeting.
The minutes of the last reunion were
read by Secretary Liz Wilkins. They, as
well as Bernice Johnstone's treasurer's
report were accepted and read. The clan
had $68 left from last year, took in $55 and
spent $69.25. There is now $53.75 left for
next year.
A moment of silence was recognized in
memory of Watson Webster who died last
week at the age of 85. He was distantly
related to the Johnstones and was well-
known in this area.
Myrtle Johnstone noted that she would
appreciate any help with researching the
history of the Johnstone clan.
It was agreed to hold the 13th annual reu-
nion Sunday, May 28, 1989, at Brookside.
Gordon Johnstone will remain as presi-
dent, with Charlie Wilkins as vice-
president, Bernice Johnstone as president,
with Charlie Wilkins as vice-president,

Wilkins as secretary.
Mrs. Janet Wilkins will be asked to con-
duct the children's games next year,
Isabel Hunter will be in charge of program

Culbert will take care of lunch.
Prizes were awarded to individuals with
certain qualities of age and ownership, in-
cluding the oldest lady, Stella Irwn, 87
years young; the man with the most
quarters, Hugh Johnstone; and the person
who travelled the furthest, Rick Barnby of
Etobicoke.
Hugh Johnstone entertained with his ex-
cellent singing, accompanied by Liz
Wilkins on piano. Anna Johnstone then led
in a sing song.
Each family was asked to relate any ex-
citing events which have taken place in
their lives over the past year.
Harvey and Becky Culbert travelled to
Florida and Texas and out West to Becky's
sister's for her 50th wedding anniversary
celebration. Jim Hunter told of Isabel go-
ing into the hospital on a Sunday and on
Monday he took a bout of Asiatic flu and
