UCS units
gather
Joint Meeting
On Tuesday, May 3, 40 ladies from Units
1, 2 and 3 met in the fellwoship room of the
Lucknow United for dessert prior to the
joint meeting.
Mrs. McFarlane chaired the meeting
and gave the announcements. The ex-
ecutive meeting is on May 31 and the din-
ner for those 75 years and over on May 25.
A hymn was sung following the call to
worship. A reading"what is a family and
what does it mean to be part of a family?"
was read.
Anna Dexter read the scripture with
Ruth Pritchard leading in prayer.
The meditation Communication in Your
Family was taken by Lois Walden.
Laura Hare sang a solo accompanied by
her mother, Mrs. McFarlane. Ruth
Mathers lead ,in prayer.
Elsie Houston then gave a reading What
is a Mother.
The guest speaker Mrs. Dan Armstrong
of Lucknow presented many of the ex-
periences she and her husband had en-
countered during 20 years of service in the
Mission Field in the mountain district of
Central Kentucky. Several articles of in-
terest were on display and a question and
answer period followed. Mrs. V. Hunter
thanked Mrs. Armstrong and presented
her with a gift.
The closing hymn was sung and Mrs.
McFarlane gave the Benedition.
Unit 1
Unit 1 of the Lucknow UCW met May 3 in
the church along with Units 2 and 3. Under
the leadership of Laura Hare with Lois
Walden acting as secretary, the minutes of
the last meeting were read and approved.
The roll call was a picture or description
of your first home. This was interestingly
responded to by seven members.
Helen Todd gave the Fellowship of the
Least Coin. The mystery jar donation was
"A Love Gift".
Evelyn Cook reported on the plans for
the Over 75 Dinner.
Anyone wishing to knit mitts for the
Christmas hampers would be greatly ap-
preciated. The meeting was adjourned.
Unit 3
Mrs. Hunter presided for the business of
Unit 3, with the minutes being read and ap-
proved. Fourteen members answered the
rollcall with a Bible verse with Mother.
The treasurer's report was given.
Happy birthday was sang to Mrs.
McPherson and Mary Black.
The collection was taken also the collec-
tion for the Least Coin and prayer was
repeated.
Mrs. Goodhue gave a Citizenship reading
No Problem at All.
Mrs. Dexter reported for Supply and
Welfare. A poem was read by Mrs. Hunter
on Mother.
Next meeting at Sepoy Apartments.
Unit 4
Unit 4 of the Lucknow United Church
Women met for their Monthly meeting on
Tuesday, May 3 with an attendance of 25
members. The program committee includ-
ed Mrs. George Whitby, Mrs.. Phillip Mac-
Millan, Mrs. Wm. Hunter and Mrs. Susan
Cooke.
Mrs. Whitby presided and opened the
program with prayer. The theme of the
program was Mothers and Gardens.
Mrs. Whitby presented a paper on The
Fragile Garden. Mrs. Cooke read a poem
entitled "Mother" and Mrs. Hunter also
gave a reading. Mrs. MacMillan gave the
offertory prayer.
Mrs. MacMillan also showed pictures of
holiday trips she and her brother, Hugh
Sinnamon, have enjoyed over the past
eight years.
Their holiday on horseback included
eight days of trail rides starting at Banff,
Alberta. The first five years they went to
Mount Assinanoine. Since that time they
have been on the Kananaska Trail, the
Cascade Mountains and the Kootney
Plains.
