TOWNSHIP OF KINLOSS
AWARDED $40,000 GRANT
FOR HOME RENEWALS
A grant of $40,000 under the Ontario
Home Renewal Program °(OHRP) for the
Township of Kinloss was announced
recently by Murray Elston, MPP for
Bruce. The announcement was made on
behalf of Chaviva Hosek, Minister , of
Housing.
Kinloss is one of the municipalities
receiving a total of more than $600,000 in
provincial OHRP funding.
Administered by municipalities, the pro-
gram assists homeowners in upgrading
their homes, with the emphasis on correc-
ting faulty structural and sanitary condi-
tions, as well as improving plumbing, in-
sulation, heating and electrical systems.
Loans of up to $7,500 are made available
to eligible owner -occupants who wish to br-
ing their homes up to standard. A portion
of a loan may be forgiven, depending on
the recipient's income. Interest rates
range from zero to ten per cent, again
depending on income.
For applicants, the maximum annual
qualifying income, after allowable deduc-
tions are made, is $21,000.
The Township of Kinloss has previously
received $40,000 in grants which have
helped upgrade 10 units.
OHRP benefits are available to owner -
occupants in all municipalities which have
adopted minimum housing standards by-
laws or resolutions establishing standards,
and have decided to take part in the pro-
gram. In communities without municipal
boundaries, OHRP' is administered by the
Ministry of Housing in conjunction with
the Ministry of Northern Development.
More than 40,000 Ontario homeowners
have benefitted from OHRP since the pro-
gram was announced in 1974.
OHRP is one of the Ministry of Housing's
initiatives to help conserve housing in
Ontario.
June Gilchrist was the winner of the Township of Kinloss logo contest held recently.
The contest was open to township ratepayers and residents. June's efforts won her the
$50 first prize and the satisfaction of knowing that her design will be included on all
township crests, pins and awards. The design includes pictures that represent the
township; the streams, rivers and hills as well as the recreational activities and, of
course, farming. The rectangular design is the actual shape of the township. June's
next task is to draw the logo on a much larger scale and to incorporate color. (Pat

Forced air drying of hay has been around
for a long time but still isn't a common
practice.
The safe moisture content of hay for
harvest is 18%. With a forced air system hay
can be harvested as wet as 40%. This
reduces the field curing time by half.
Hay drying is only for producers who
understand the value of higher quality hay.
The extra protein in early hay will pay for
the installation and operation of the system.
The operating costs are $3.50 to $4.00/tonne
for electricity.
There might be time to install the duct and
fan before haying. The Factsheet "Barn
Hay Drying" provides information on hay
drying or contact our office.
