Annual water maintenance fee set at X80
Mr. and Mrs. Dave Gibb and Mrs. Nor-
ma Rintoul attended the annual meeting of
the Blue Water Region of the Arthritis
Society held on Saturday at Walkerton
Knights of Columbus Hall.
Celebrating Tracy Robinsons' ninth bir-
thday on Sunday at her home with her
parents Lenard and Doris Robinson were
Mr. and Mrs. Roy Robinson and Steven,
Mr. and Mrs. Mac Cardiff of Brussels, and
Mrs. Norma Rintoul.
Mrs. Ann Oberholtzer and Julie of
Waterloo were visitors with her mother
Mrs. Norma Rintoul on the weekend.
Miss Karen Beecroft and Greg Dwyer of
Kitchener were visitors with Mr. and Mrs.
Ernest Beecroft on Tuesday.
Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Beecroft visited on
Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Kirk Beecroft
and family in Exeter.
Congratulations to Elmer Sleightholm
who on Friday retired from Stanley Door
after attaining 32 years of faithful work
there. A retirement dinner was held, in his
honor on Friday.
A family dinner was held on Saturday
night in the Whitechurch community hall
for family and friends in honor of Elmer's
retirement. The evening was spent in play-
ing cards, and visiting.
The Gideons had the service Sunday
morning in the United Church
Whitechurch with Martin Baan from
Walton as the speaker. Mr. and Mrs. Baan
were dinner guests with Mr. and Mrs. Clif-
ford Laidlaw recently.
` The Whitechurch Women's Institute held
a Dessert Euchre on Monday afternoon
with 10 tables. Dessert was served follow-
ed by cards. High Lady was Jean Ross; Se-
cond high lady, Joyce Pickard; High man,
Wm. Purdon; Second high man, playing as
a man was Jean Whitly. The closest one
celebrating a birthday to April 25 was

Betty Jones was in Thorndale recently
visiting friends and relatives.
Visiting with Rhetta and Marion
MacLennan for a couple of days are Louise
Miller and her son Steven of Palmerston.
Steven has just recently returned home
from Germany. He was with the Canadian
Hockey Team. He left Canada the first of
December, so he had a lot of things to tell
his grandmother and his aunt of his many
experiences in Europe.
Weekend visitors with Charles Mayme
' and ken Wilkins was Barbara Wilkins of
Paris, Ontario and Bill and Joanne Wilkins
and their two children Stacey and Ian of
Guelph.
Visiting with Dorothy Finlayson on the
weekend was Carol Finlayson and her hus-
band John Balch and two sons Alexander
and Nicholas of Toronto.
Ashfield Women's
Missionary Society
The Easter thank offering meeting of the
Ashfield W.M.S. Presbyterian Church was
held on Thursday, April 21st at 7:30 p.m. in
the church basement.
Mrs. Donald Simpson presided and open-
ed with a call to worship and prayer. The
worship service from the "Glad Tidings"
was used, with Mrs. Donald Simpson, Mrs.
Neil MacKenzie, Mrs. Allen MacDonald,
Mrs. Warren Wylds and Mrs. Ewen
McLean taking part, Mrs. Richard West
was pianist.
Mrs. Donald Simpson introduced the
guest speaker Miss Ruth Thompson of
Lucknow who gave a very interesting talk
on a trip she had to Moscow and Len-
ingrad. Mrs. Neil MacKenzie thanked Miss
Thompson and presented her with a gift.
Mrs. Stuart MacLennan and Mrs. Lloyd
Collins showed the films on the study
"Sights and Sounds of the churches of the
U.S. S. R.
The offering was received and of-
feratory prayer by Mrs. Ewen McLean. An
invitation to attend the one hundredth an-
niversary of the South Kinloss W.M.S. on
May 4th at 7:30 p.m. was read. Maitland
Presbyterial will meet on Monday, May
9th at Molesworth at 2:00 p.m.
The meeting closed with a hymn and
prayer, grace was sung and a social time
was enjoyed by the ladies.

Whitechurch Water Meeting
The annual meeting of the Whitechurch
Water System sharehntriers was held April
19th at the commui. are were 20
members present. ', annual water'
maintenance fee for April 1/88 to April 1/89
is set at $80.00.
It was, decided that future annual
meetings e held in March at which time
the new rate will be set. The list of rulings
was revised as well. Any new applications
for water from the system will be decided
by the board of directors. An official board
of six directors has the authority to ma!'(
decisions on running the system bt.cwee.i
annual meetings.
The chairman, secretary and treasurer
of the system will be on this board as well
as three directors at large.
Elections were held and results as
follows: Chairman, Murray Simpson;
Secretary, Cathy Lubbers; treasurer,
Kathleen Gibson; Maintenance men,
Angus Falconer, Bill Purdon and Murray
Simpson. Directors at large, Roger Benn-
inger, Angus Falconer, and Bevin Tiffin.
4-H News
The first meeting of the Whitechurch 4-H
club was held on April 30 at the home of
Mrs. Walter Elliott. Three new members
were welcomed into the club, Scott and
Stev tout, and Dianne Ross.

This club is "Encounter the Outdoors".
The guest speaker was Martin Cretier,
Boy Scout leader from Wingham who
spoke on fires - how to build a fire, and the
different construction of fires. Karen
Elliott thanked Martin and presented a
gift.
The members then' proceeded to build a
teepee. Instructed by Mr. Cretier, they
built a fire, and cooked hot dogs.
The memberE n returned to the house
to discuss why they wanted to Encounter
the Outdoors, and how to create a minimal
impact on the environment. They closed°
with the 4-H motto.
