Seniors' Day Centre
By Pam Williams
As the song says "though April showers
may come your way, They bring the
flowers that bloom in May."
The Day Centre for the Homebound in
Wingham has special programs blooming
for the entire month of May.
Our social and recreational programs
continue with a special guest speaker,
Muriel Coultes of Belgrave, who has
recently returned from a trip to Ethiopia.
Mrs. Coultes will help us with some arm
chair travelling to a nation we are eager to
hear more about.
Day Centre staff will be attending an an-
nual conference of three associations. The
Older Adult Centres Association of On-
tario's Meals -on -Wheels Association and
the new Ontario Home Support Associa-
tion. The joint conference will be held in
Ottawa from May 16-19. Some of the infor-
mative workshops we will be attending are
Advocacy on Behalf of the Elderly, Care
for the Caregivers, 55 Alive - Safe Driving
for Older Adults, Fundraising, Liability In-
surance, Rural Transportation and many
other interesting sessions.
A special movie afternoon will be held at
the centre on Thursday May 19th with pop-
corn and all the trimmings. The feature
film will be "Blue Skies" starring Bing
Crosby and Fred Astaire.
Later in the month we will have special
activities to help celebrate "National
Fitness Week". Once again we'll try our
annual trek to the Moon (yes, that's right).
Older adults will try to walk, hop or move
and accumulate mileage to equal the
distance from the earth to the moon.
Should be lots of fun!
A special mystery bus trip is planned in
May. Sorry ... I can't divulge the
destinations.
The Foot Clinics, provided by Communi-
ty Nursing Services continue with clinics
on the llth and the 26th. Please call the
centre at 357-1445 for an appointment.
National Access Week is from May 28th -
June 3rd. On Monday May 30, there will be
an access awareness day in the Wingham
Armoury to bring attention to the com-
munity, the barriers that are created for
people with handicaps in the community.
Several of the area community leaders
will demonstrate how difficult it is to be
mobile if you use a wheelchair or if you
have a visual problem etc ... Information
displays will also be on view in the ar-
moury for public viewing from 10 am -2
pm.
A thought for the month is "Man does not
cease to play because he grows old, he
grows old because he ceases to play."
Spring shopping here
Pinecrest News

On Sunday evening April 17th, the Trini-
ty U.C.W. held. their Spring Thankoffering
at the church. There was a good crowd
with ladies from surrounding churches at-
tending, as well as a few men.
After the opening remarks and welcome
to everyone, the scripture was read by
president Mrs. Elizabeth Irvin and the
meditation given by Mrs. Janet Wilkins.
Hymn "Walk Softly in Springtime" was
sung followed by prayer by the president.
A trio of ladies from South Kinloss
Presbyterian Church rendered 2 lovely
musical numbers during the evening.
Mrs. Ruth Alton introduced the guest
speaker Mr's. Muriel Coultes from
Belgrave who showed slides and gave a
very interesting account of her trip to
Ethiopia in March of this year. She was
thanked by Mrs. Dora Alton.
The hymn "In Christ There is No East or
West" was sung, followed by the
Benediction.
The crowd then adjourned to the Sunday
School rooms where a social hour was en-
