BY RUTH ANNE DURNIN,
TERESA JEFFERSON
AND DAWN HOGAN
The Kindergarten I class did a super job
of their part in the Spring Concert. They
were terrific little Egyptians. On Tuesday
of this week Matthew Martin's Mom came
with one of their baby lambs to visit. The
class had been talking about farm babies
and it was super to have a baby animal
here. The students said good bye to Sarah
Adam this week and wished her well in her
new home in Perth, Ontario.
Miss Jewitt's Grade 1 class wishes Mike
MacGillivray good luck in his new school.
They will miss Mike. The class has been
busy working on Mud Puddle activities
and learning about Place Value in math.
They also had a visit from Jackie
Hackett's pet Chow Chow named Sheeba.
Mrs. Graham visited Mrs. Ottewell's
Grade Three class and made pictures of
bears, roosters, butterflies, etc, using
seeds and corn and spices and many other
things. The class sang in the primary choir
at the spring concert.
The Dinosaur Den had a great time be-
ing a part of the Spring Concert. They
practiced their skit all week, so they could
be super newspaper reporters — EXTRA,
EXTRA! The class is also hard at work on
their hard cover books. Most of them are
finishing their final copies now, and mak-
ing their end papers. Mothers and
volunteers are helping us cover the card-
boards and sew the pages together. They
are truly Awesome Authors! Jessica Daily
is "Special Me" this week.
Mrs. Worsell's class was very impressed
with their little visitor Cody Hogan, last
week. He hardly woke up to take a look at
the.students. Big brother Colin was pretty
proud though! The class bid farewell on
Friday to Michelle MacGillivray who is
moving to Goderich. The class wishes her
the best of luck at Robertson school.
Grade 4 Room 9 has been making books
for Author's Day. The books are very nice.
On April 19 they had a concert. Grade 6
and Grade 4 presented a play on the
Canada Goose. On Thursday the school
had an Open House. The Grade 4 class
thanks Mrs. Black, Mrs. Pengelly, Mrs.
Culbert, Mrs. Andrew, Mrs. Bleeker and
Susanne Bromann who looked around their
classroom.
Mr. Spittal's gr. 5/6 class is busy mak-
ing books. On May 4, they are going on a
field trip to the Toronto Zoo and to see the
CN Tower and the new Skydome. They
have been studying and explorers. In
math, they are making bar graphs and
learning more about fractions. Grade 6 is
reading Karate Kidd II.
Mrs. Tebbutt's Grade 6 class did a plant
experiment; they put plant cuttings into
yogurt containers, and put them in dif-
ferent places, and concluded that plants
need light, water, air and warmth to grow.
They also had Mrs. Graham teach them
how to draw different types of trees and
shrubs.
In the news, the Grade 7 top headlines
this week happened on Tuesday, April 19,
when Mr. Bill Allen visited from the Bruce
BROOKS IDE •
;BROADCAST
Nuclear Power Development to talk to us
about electricity and things to look for in
our upcoming trip to the plant on April 26.
In Industrial Arts and family studies the
class held open house last week, where
parents come to.the classes to view what
the students were achieving. For sports
highlights; the class has just started
Canada Fitness Testing, and very soon will
start 'practising for the jump rope for
heart's pledge. Track and field practice
starts soon as well.
Congratulations to Mr. Liddle's Teams -
The Woodpeckers for winning the
houseleage basketball title.
STAFF CHANGES
Mrs. Allen and Miss Clynick have both
been transferred to McCurdy. Mrs, Allen
will be teaching and also will hold the posi-
tion of Vice Principal while Miss Clynick
will be teaching grades 4 and 5 and gym.
Miss Knetsch will teaching French at
Brussels. Mrs. Tebbutt is going to
Vanastra to teach grade 7 and 8. Mrs. Ot-
tewell will be retiring. Good luck to all
these teachers.
BALLOON RELEASE
The balloon release was held on Monday
April 18. The kindergartens to grade 3 let
the balloons go with their names and ad-
dresses in them. There is an award for the
balloon returned from the furthest
distance. All students and teachers took
part in the balloon release. It was a most
impressive and colourful sight when all 100
balloons were released at once.
SPRING CONCERT
On April 19, Brookside held it's Annual
Spring Concert. There were two major
productions. The Grapevine Connection
was performed by the Grade 7 and 8
classes. Matthew Sproul and Candice Kay
sang solos. It featured many different
ways of communicating. Mrs. Tebbut's
grade 6 class and Mrs. Scott's grade 4
presented a musical called the Canada
Goose. Adella Andrew sang a solo. The
primary choir also sang 5 funny songs to
open the show.
Many people commented that the even-
ing was full of humour and very enjoyable.
The speaking parts were done well by all.
STORY HOUR
On April 21, 16 pre-schoolers came to the
library for Story Hour. These students will
be attending Kindergarten in September.
The theme was "Teddy Bears." Mrs.
Blake read them teddy bear stories and
they coloured teddy bear pictures. There
will be three story hour sessions in the
library, and one session with a police of-
ficer on bus safety. The next session is on
April 28th.
