selects
topic
"We've got to get people thinking."
"Where does our garbage go after the
suitable sites are filled up?" "We're a
lazy, wasteful society." "Recycling is the
first law of waste management."
Such statements and questions as well as
Branch resulutions prompted the
Federated Women's Institutes of Ontario
(FWIO) to select waste management as
their project topic for 1988.
To focus on this topic, FWIO has oragniz-
ed a Leadership Development Conference
which will be held at Queen's University,
Kingston from May 13 to 15 with the theme
being "Educate -Initiate".
Attending the conference will be women
from across the province who are in-
terested in increasing their knw 'pledge and
abilities.
The object of the conference is two -fold:
it will provide the participants with infor-
mation about all aspects of waste manage-
ment so that they are better informed and
responsible citizens; and it will provide
participants with the necessary motiva-
tion and leadership tools to organize pro-
ductive projects.
The keynote speaker will be the Hon.
James Bradley, Ontario's Minister of the
Environment. Other speakers will repre-
sent the Recycling Advisory Council,
municipal governments and rural
organizations services.
Workshops will emphasize the techni-
ques of fund raising, volunteer manage-
ment, program planning, public relations
and speaking with confidence.
The goal of the Women's Institutes is to
educate and motivate women across On-
tario who will then promote and initiate
projects and programs that address the
waste management concerns in their
communities.
