Olympic events not as easy as Ahey look
The Kindergarten II class enjoyed our
afternoon of Winter Olympics. We like the
luge and snow bowling the best. We have
completed our `All About Me' booklets. We
did a graph of our family pets and made
cats and dogs from paper plates.
Miss Jewitt's Grade 1 class felt mostly
proud of the Canadian Olympics. They
made us proud to live in Canada. Some
people felt tingles in their back when the
torch was lit. The bobsled races were ex-
citing. We were proud of Canada's hockey
team trying their best. Brian Orser and
Elizabeth Manley became heroes with
their best skating ever. We were very pro-
ud of the athletes who won but mostly of
the athletes who tried.
The Dinosaur Den Olympic Team really
liked learning about the Olympics and wat-
ching the real thing! We talked about how
the athletes were feeling, and how skilled
they were. At the "Awesome Olympics" at
Brookside we tried some events too! Our
luge was fun, but maybe not quite as fast
as the real one! We had a torch relay, a
biathlon, hockey, and speed skating too!
We hope to see a tape of the closing
ceremonies for the Calgary Olympics.
Sandra Alton was our last "Special Me",
and now it's Caley Moore.
Grade 2, room 3 students made torn
paper picture of the olympic events they
entered in the school Olympics. They cut
Olympic pictures out of the paper and
wrote a story about what they thought was
going on. Their stories are going to be
made into a big book.
Mrs. Ottewell's Gr. 3 made Olympics
posters and Olympic booklets. We
especially liked the math sheets with Heidi
and Howdy on them. We have a new Heidi
on our bulletin board and we're starting to
learn more about Canada. Happy March
Birthday to Keith MacKenzie, Lieasabeth
Hartman, Angelique Delbergue and Kelly
McNee.
Grade 4, room 10 students wish a happy
belated birthday to Tanya Maize. A special
thanks to Mr. Delbergue for coming to
show us his carvings. Today is the ping-
pong tournament. Grade 4 predicts that
March is going to go out like a lion. This
week the P.A. system didn't work for 2
days.
Last week three people got into the Fac-
tor Facts club from Grade 4. portable 2.
BROOKSIDE
BROADCAST
They were Tammy Upthegrove, Melissa
Daer, and Erin Schultz. The school has had
an Olympic day. Mr. Culp cut a goalie out
of plywood. The whole class painted him
for our Olympic day. You had to take a
hockey stick and shoot a tennis ball by the
goalie into the net. You scored points if you
could get it passed the goalie. He is
nicknamed the Sieve, and if he gets better
in his hockey years we will change his
name to the Puckstopper.
Grade 5 Portable One worked on Olym-
pic Math problems. They also had an
Olympic Scavenger Hunt using the
Newspaper winners. Tied for the gold
medal were Canada's team of Michelle
MacGillivary, Craig McNay, Trevor
Hoyes, and Robbie Ohm and the U.S.S.R.
team of Doug Barger, Patricia Robinson,
Heather Alton and Eric Andrew.
Two people in our class (Grade 7A) plac-
ed second for the ping-pong tournament.
They were Terry Livingston and Heather,
Jefferson. Our class made it to Wawanosh
for the Snow Shoe Shuffle. We had great
weather, but we didn't have enough for hot
chocolate. Our family studies class has
started to sew our initial pill9,ws. The shop
class has had mostly demonstrations but
hope to start their first project "shortly"!
In gym we have started basketball.

Style!
The funniest moment was the snowshoe
race because I tripped with my snowshoes.
- Dennis Black.
The hardest event was skiing because
we could barely lift the long skis off the
ground. - Cris Curran.
The event I enjoyed the most was the
toboggan racing. It was exciting having
Shane McDougall pull me around. -
Nathan Durnin.
The hardest event as the biathalon
because you had to run and throw a bean-
bag in a bucket at the same time. - Luke
Sproul.
