The Lucknow Sentinel, 1988-03-02, Page 15Novices take 8-0 win in game two of series Lucknow travelled to Harriston by bus for game two of their playoff series. Lucknow's goal tending duo of Curt Humphrey and Graeme Hunter brought home a shutout in the 8-0 win over Harriston. Goals came off the sticks of Jeff Porter, 2; Michael Puddy, 2; Brent Cameron,Tevor Moffat, Glenn Ferguson and Stuart Rintoul with singles. Assists., went to Brent Cameron, Jeff Porter 2, Ian Paolin 2, Colin Becker and Stuart Rintoul. Harriston appeared to play well but were unable to get in on Lucknow's end and organize their offence. The Harriston goalie played a strong game in the net. At this time it is uncertain which team Lucknow is to play next, but look forward to some exhibition games in the meantime. world Day of Prayer to be held on Friday St. Joseph's C.W.L. held a very suc- cessful bake sale at the Suncoast Mall in Goderich on Friday, February 26th. Pro -Life held an orientation day at their Goderich office for volunteers who will staff the phones as counselors. Several parishioners have volunteered their ser- vices for this extremely worthwhile and important service. The Knight of Columbus sponsored a card party in the church hall, Tuesday evening Feb. 23rd. Refreshments were served after eight very enjoyable games of progressive euchre were played. Prize winners included ladies' high, Rita Tigert; ladies' low, Elsie Dykstra, men's high, Maurice Miltenburg and men's low, Brother Carl. The Lenten holy hour was observed on Wednesday evening in St. Joseph's Church with the recitation of the rosary, stations of the cross and mass. These devotions will continue every Wednesday during Lent. As well, mass will be celebrated daily at noon in the school gym. Several members of the C.W.L. visited at Maitland Manor on Wednesday after- noon Feb. 24th. Parishioners extend their sympathies to the family of the late Con Hogan, a former St. Joseph's parishioner whose funeral was held at St. Mary's in Lucknow Tues- day, Feb. 2Ath. The Annual World Day of Prayer will this year be held at Trinity United Church in Ashfield Friday, March 4th at 1:30 p.m. Eight local churches of different denominations will take part. This year's theme is "Open Doors" and was prepared., by the women of Brazil. Everyone is welcome to attend this lovely ceremony which will be conducted worldwide with KINGSBRIDGE arish/School By Louise Martin the same theme of "Open Doors". In conjunction with the Winter Olympics being held in Calgary, the school held their own version of the Olympics on Wednes- day, Feb 24th. Some of the events included were team skiing, the luge, bobsled races and cross country. Staff and students alike. had a great day. Ribbons for the event were supplied by the Royal Bank. In the Zone Borden Ball Tournament at St. Mary's in Goderich, the Kinsbridge girls put on an excellent performance los- ing to Goderich by only one point to finish second and advance to the Huron -Perth finals to be held in Stratford. In a snow sculpturing contest with an Olympic theme sponsored by the Kinsmen Club, St. Joseph's School took third with ° their creation of a man in a bobsled. Friday, Feb. 26th the school had their last opportunity to enjoy skating for the season at the Goderich,arena. Four students from the school took part in the Annual Legion Public Speaking Con- test in Lucknow. They all turned in an ex- cellent performance and are to be con- gratulated on their hard work and efforts. Sheila Stright finished third in the in- termediate division - congratulations Sheila. The other speakers included Da- mien Martin, the other intermediate divi- sion speaker and Heidi and Becky Martin for the junior division.
