'Intinel Practice andpatience pays off for Atoms Lucknow Atom A's The Lucknow Atom A hockey team played two exhibition games over the weekend and came away with two decisive wins. On Saturday, the boys travelled to Clin- ton and dominated the game with tight passing and aggressive skating. By the end of the second period of play, Lucknow enjoyed a 5 - 0 lead. Lucknow's Blair Bunian tipped in the first goal with help from Chris DeJong and just 46 seconds later, Eric Andrew found the mark unassisted. Denis Hogan came up with two credits with helpers going to Chad Hiller and Dar- cy MacDonald. With the second period coming to a close, Chris DeJong again beat the Clinton goalie with a solid solo effort. The third period of play brought lots of action to the ice as Chad Hiller scored qucikly on a breakaway to increase Lucknow's lead. Clinton got their only goal of the game mid -way into the final period to break the shut -out but Lucknow retaliated with two more before the final buzzer. Chad Hiller assisted Chris DeJong on a excellent play and then scored himself unassisted to end the game at 8 - 1 for Lucknow. On Sunday afternoon Lucknow took on rival Goderich and this time the shut -out held up as Lucknow took a 7 - 0 victory home. Lucknow's goal tender Jamie Snow seal- ed his net with help from his defensmen Shawn Belmore, David Adams, Joe Dalton and Darcy MacDonald. Chad Hiller enjoyed a hat -trick in the game...all unassisted efforts. Eric Andrew also had a big game netting two solo goals. The other two markers came from the sticks of Shawn Belmore and Robin Poulin. Hiller added an assist on the final goal. With the season rapidly drawing to a close, the Lucknow Atoms are reflecting on the positive results of patience and practice that George Adams and Don Mac- Donald have put in to develop the teams talents and skills. A good season boys, and here's to neat year. The Lucknow Intermediate Lancers are smack-dab in the middle of a rough and tum- ble playoff series with the Drayton Intermediates. At press Unit, following Sunday's 5-4 overtime win in Drayton, and the 5-3 win here on Friday, the Lancers lead the series and could wrap it up tonight with a win on the road. If not, they'll play her on Sunday evening with the series tied at three each. In this photo of action from Fri- day's game in Lucknow, there's a Lancer on the porch and one,jt the backdoor but the puck went out the side thanks to the quick leg work of the Drayton netminder.
