Stevenson leads Pee Wees
to win.. over Chesley
Lucknow PeeWee A
The Lucknow PeeWe A team have won
the first round in W.O.A.A. Championship
play by defeating Chesley three games to
none.
Chesley was a rugged team in the first
game forcing Lucknow to win it in a ten
minute overtime period.
Lucknow's Warren Andrew opened the
scoring on a nice backhand shot assisted
by Chris Stevenson and Rod Crich.
Chesley scored twice to take the lead but
didn't hold it for long as Stevenson came
on to dazzle the netminder on a break
away.
Chesley scored once more to lead the
game 3 - 2 after the first period. -
Come the second period, Stevenson
scored yet again to tie the match. Brad
Rhody took the assist.
Each team netted one more. in the se-
cond. Lucknow's marker came from
Justin Murray with assists to Warren An-
drews and Brad Rhody.
Chesley took the lead again in the third
but Stevenson fought to tie it by tossing the
puck over the shoulder of the Chesley
goalie.
With the game tied at 5, the teams took a
break before heading into overtime. While.
the boys rested in the dressing room, the
fans held onto their seats in anticipation of
overtime.
When play resumed, Justin Murray was
the hero as he scored just seven seconds in-
to the extra period. Stevenson and Rhody
took the assists.
Rod Crich really wanted to make sure of
the win as he blasted one from the blueline
which forced both the puck and the goalie
into the net.
Chesley scored once more to . keep
Lucknow honest but Stevenson capped a
big night by adding yet another to give
Lucknow an 8 - 6 decision.
Game two
After such a close first game in the
series, it seemed as though fans would see
an evenly matched second game with
Chesley. Such was not the case however as
Lucknow walloped their opposition 13 - 5 in
the second game.
Darryl Gibson put one onto the stick of
Matt Sproul who made no mistake to open
the scoring. Donnie Cuilleriere, who has
become well known for his blueline shot,
blasted the second goal with assists to
Brad Rhody and Chris Stevenson.
Defenseman Rod Crich also blasted a
shot from the blueline and through the
pads to make it Three to zip in the first.
Rhody was in on that marker as well.
With just three seconds left m the first,
Chesley caught Lucknow out of position to
net their first goal.
Chesley came out strong in the second
and made the score 3 - 3.before Lucknow
came to their senses again and dominated
the remainder of the game.
While Lucknow netted seven more goals,
they held Chesley to only two.
Lucknow goals came from Chris Steven-
son assisted by Justin Murray and Brad
Rhody; Rhody from Stevenson; .Clint Mur-
ray from Chris Humphrey; Rhody again
from Duane Porter and Justin Murray;
Chris Humphrey for his second with
assists to Vince Sticklend and Warren An-
drew; Stevenson from Rhody; Justin Mur-
ray from Donnie Cuillerier and Terry
Stanley; and lucky number 13 came from
the stick of Chris Humphrey for the hat-
trick with an assist to Andrews and Crich.
Game three
With .Lucknow up two games in the
series, the team travelled to Chesley Fri-
day evening. They almost didn't make it
home due to the weather but nothing could
stop them on the ice as they wrapped up.
the series with a win on the road.
Chris Stevenson opened the scoring
unassisted but Lucknow looked a little
slow in the early going.
Stevenson added his second on the night
for the visitors with assists to Justin Mur-
ray and Brad Rhody and completed the
natural hat -trick early in the second
period. Duane Porter took the helper.
Chesley wouldn't lie down for that and
came on to tie the game in the second
before Matt Drennan came flying through
the air to sink, the go-ahead goal assisted
by Matt Sproul and Clint Murray.
Stevenson added his fourth of the night
soon after with assists to Justin Murray
and Brad Rhody.
Rhody added his own with help from,
Stevenson to end the game with a 6 - 3 win.
The Lucknow PeeWee As will now travel
to Paisley for the Championship round and
fans can expect some great hockey action
from this strong team.
Teeswater up by one
in series with Lucknow
Lucknow Atom A
On Tuesday of last week, Teeswater
hosted our Lucknow Atom A team in the
first game of a best of three series. It was a
solid effort on the part of both teams which
ended in a 5 - 5 tie after overtime.
The first period of the game was con-
trolled by Lucknow. Chad Hiller struck
first unassisted and Chris DeJong added
one to end the first 2 - 0 for Lucknow. Joe
Dalton took the helper on that one,
The second period saw Teeswater take
the upper hand in the contest. The netted
three goals to put them up,by one after two
periods.
Teeswater came out just as strong in the
third period and were up by two goals,
quickly.
The Lucknow boys dug deep and midway
through the period, Eric Andrew took the
pouck from the faceoff and beat the goalie
unassisted.
Chad Hiller tied the game late in the
period with assists;to ,Chris DeJong and
Robin Paolin.
In the overtime period, Lucknow scored
first when Chris DeJong completed a play
started by Chad Hiller and David Adams.
This lead, 'however, was short lived as
Teeswater stormed back to tie the game
again.
In the second game of the series played
on Saturday afternoon in Lucknow,
Teeswater came out flying and netted four
goals in the first two periods.
It wasn't until late in the second that
Lucknow was able to tunr the game
around. Eric Andrew netted the puck off
the stick of Shawn Bellmore in the 'final
two minutes of the middle frame.
Come the third period, Lucknow held
complete control but it wasn't enough.
Chad Hiller scored in the opening seconds
to cut the Teeswater lead to two.
At the five minute mark, Eric Andrew
tapped the puck in again. Help on the goal
went to Shawn Bellmore.
And that ended the game with the final
score 4 - 3 in favour of Teeswater. They
now lead the series by a game.
