Lucknow beat Ripley in their first game by scoring four to Ripley's one. A lot of consistent hard work from Chris Steven- son netted the first goal at the 3:44 mark of the first period. Darryl Gibson put the second goal away to make the score 2 - 0. Brad Rhody and Warren Andrews connected for the third Lucknow goal after Rhody wrapped his stick around the goal post and stuck it in the net. Ripley put the only goal they would get past Adam Skilien at the 1:07 marker of the second period, but Lucknow's Vince Sticklend got it back after receiving a pass from Chris Humphrey who was helped by Justin Murray. After the win, the stage was set for the next game against Seaforth and the Lucknow boys were rough and ready. The game remained scoreless for most of the first period before Matt Drennan finally opened the scoring. Helpers went to Matt Sproul and Justin Murray. Chris Stevenson put a real nice goal in behind Seaforth's goalie to make it a two - nothing game but Seaforth continued their efforts as they netted two quick ones to tie the game. Vince Sticklend broke the tie with just seven seconds left in the second period. Assist to Justin Murray and Chris Humphrey. With a win looming large for either team 'and the fans holding onto the edge of their seats, Seaforth tied the game once more mid -way into the third period. Chris Stevenson wouldn't stand for that though and retaliated by putting his own goal behind the Seaforth netminder with Terry Stanley drawing the assist. The lead was not to last as Seaforth wanted the win just as bad. They once again tied the game and sent the contest into a five minute, sudden death overtime period. With fans holding their breath and just 19 seconds left in the overtime, Justin Mur- ray passed to Chris Stevenson who ended the tension and won the game for Lucknow. The win put Lucknow in contention for the championship but it all ended when they met Wingham next. Lucknow went down to defeat at the hands of a strong Wingham team by the score of 3 - 1. Cris Stevenson `netted Lucknow's only goal in the game when he drew the goalie out of position and through the puck into the net. The goal stood good until the third period when Wingham struck for three unanswered goals to win the contest. Our, B's lose to Listowel PeeWee B's The Lucknow PeeWee B's played a very competitive hockey game on Saturday, January 2, and though the team worked hard, they were unable to get ahead, of their Listowel competition. The final score in the contest was 7 - 5 in favour of Listowel. Without the good net - minding of 'Keith Todd, the difference could have been much greater. Lucknow goals came from the sticks of Douug Helm, Scott Rintoul, and Scott Nicholson with two markers from Dennis Johnston. The goals were assisted by Den- nis Johnston (2), Scott Nicholson (2) and Tom Chilton. Johnston's second goal and Nicholson's tally were unassisted. The last two periods of play in this game were very exciting with theLucknow team scoring 3 of the 4 goals. Meals on Wheels looks for drivers The December meeting of the Lucknow Meals on Wheels Committee was held recently at Pinecrest Manor with most of the directors -present. Since the time of the New Horizons grant was nearly com- pleted, this was the main topic of conversation. The questions of a form to be- completed now were discussed and many were com- pleted. This grant has enabled the commit- tee to maintain a cost of two dollars and fif- ty cents per meal and to hire a student to help. The Pinecrest staff prepares these meals for delivery by volunteer drivers. Ruth Thompson, Mamie Roulston and Bernice Johnstone attended a one -day meeting of Meals on Wheels units in Grey and Bruce Counties at Owen Sound. They had a special speaker, Bill'Gleberson, Ex- ecutive Director of Meals On Wheels Ontario. Mr. Gleberspn reported on activities on the provincial level, discussed standards and guidleines and answered many ques- tions. Each Unit at the meeting reported on how they raised funds, how they organized and how they solved their pro- blems. It was a most interesting and helpful day. The Committee met again on January 6 and completed the report of the New Horizons grant which has now ended. The advisability of delivering meals five days per week was discussed. This would mean the need for more drivers. Anyone who would like to deliver meals one night per month is asked to contact Ruth Thomp- son at 528-3003 or Mamie Roulston at 528-2917. Anyone who deserves to receive Meals on Wheels should contact either Mary Boyle, 528-2945, or Bernice Johnstone at 528-3719.
