When 1 was little..., it was a tradition in our family to decorate•the Christmas tree together. Once the tree was finished, with each ornament in its place and the angel .watching from on high, it was time to unpack the nativity scene. Our nativity scene -included large ceramic figures, a cradle lined with straw and a wooden sta- ble. Each figure was carefully unwrapped and placed .alongside the others. All the while, we re -told the Christmas story. A special place was always chosen for the nativity scene. Our decorating for Christmas was never complete until the nativity scene was set up witheach figure in its place and Baby Jesus in his cradle. • One year, the figure of Baby Jesus dis- appeared. It was there when we finished our decorating. But then it went missing. Mary and Joseph stood by theetepty cra- dle. Sheep and cows were in their places. Shepherds and. angels .kept watch. Our lives are surrounded with ;be evidence of, Christmas - there's ,coloured ' lights, decorated trees. music, family gatherings and good times. But the Baby is goneelost somewhere in the gift wrap and the fancy ribbons. Christmas without Baby Jesus? Why that's impossible! Sometimes it seems Baby Jesus is missing.
