Xn N;ovember1948, Gordon purchased; the Ford Garage in
Lucknow.;from Garf Austrander. 'With a staffof five, he
sold Ford ears and trucks, Ford'. tractors, and farm equip
ment, among doing other -things like snow plowing side: -
wa1ks and streets of.Lucknow and operating a tow track.
School bussing•:' started in 1951..with three bus routes
eventually growing to a high of 56 routes. Throughout the
past few years With several changes of.amalgamation and
downsizing the ';fleet had been. ` reduced to. 34 routes;
Gordon' purchased 'part of the main street' including the
1acksmith shop .,(which was later rebuilt into :offices,
parts and body shop), and Silverwogd's"retail store:whish
ended up as a parking lot_ eventually.' The tractor -shop
moved out in 1964 and was later.sold to the -current° owner
Stu Reavie in 1972..; In 1971, GT . Montgomety . Ltd..
became a separate business from'. Montgomery Motors
and in 197( the bus operation' was moved to the old-',
St inoco building (now; The Shop` Video) on the 'main ,: "
street. During this. time, Gordon's, two sons.;.lames .and
Ian,. were taking .an active role: in the' business; James
became a. icensed; 'motor; mechanic and, Ian. became, a
licensed' body:.rnechanic:
1982 saw the " expansion of the -;Mo ntgoi very family.
business to Kincardine'; where Montgomery- :Ford was
opened., At'.that"time; :Pan took over :operation ` of the
`Lucknow dealership and:the bussing, and James operated
the `Kincardine dealership (until' .his death 'on July 24,
1993). -Gordon remained interested. in all three
businesses and added a:vast :ariiount of knowledge and
support until his• death :.in. April, 8,,`1994 :I,n. December.
• 1985,Montgomery Motors changed locations to upgrade
their service • to the :community" •by housing both ":r
Montgomery Motors and G.T. Montgomery Ltd.' in. one•
building.. and also+ provide room for'. an expanding
business.`
