Snowflakes dance, choir sings
at Brookside Christmas concert
The incoming principal, Mr. Don Tremeer
of Clinton visited Brookside Public School on
Friday, December 9 to meet the teachers and
tour the school.
The annual Christmas concert was held on
`December 14 to a packed house. Numbers
included the Primary Choir, Kindergarten
songs and dance; Mrs. Tebbutt and Mrs.
Young's classes. Snowflakes; Mrs. Blanch-
ette's class, The Bear's Christmas; Mrs.
Graham's class, A Christmas Play; Mrs.
Cameron's class, Christmas Tree and the
Senior Choir.
At the close of the concert grade 8 had a
surprise for Gary Jewitt, principal, in the
form of fluorescent letters on the curtain
spelling Thank You, Mr. Jewitt and they had
a poem to read to him. He came as principal
when this grade 8 started to Kindergarten.
Words of farewell were spoken to Mr. Jewitt
and to Lois Farrish who is retiring and both
received a standing ovation.
Brookside is proud to have some winners
in the Legion Poster contest, namely, first
prize. Michael Curran $15.00; second prize,
Melissa Logtenberg $10.00; third prize.
Julie Pentland $5.00; also third prize, Jean
McWhinney $5.00.

The children went skating in Lucknow on
Thursday afternoon.
On Thursday afternoon after school, the
staff held a farewell party for 1Vtr witt and
Mrs. Farrish. All teachers who had aught at
Brookside during Mr. Jewitt's ten re were
invited; also those who had filled in for
maternity leaves. etc. Mr. Don Cameron was
master of ceremonies. Mary Bere read a
poem to Lois Farrish and Ross Errington also
read one written by Brookside's resident
poet. Don Cameron read an address to Mr.
Jewitt and gifts were presented to both Lois
and Gary. Tony McQuail and Marian Zinn
spoke briefly and everyone enjoyed a social
time together.
On Friday, December 16 the Student's
Council showed a film, "Now You See Him,
Now You Don't. which was a comedy
enjoyed by all.
School resumes again on January 2, 1984.
The winter term for Volunteers is from
January 16 to March 16, a period of nine
weeks but if anyone wishes to start before
January 16. just call the school during the
first week of the New Year.
