news Lucknow Sentinel, Wednesday, December 14, 1983—Page 28 Council receives hospital board delegation... *from pie 1 council the report was available at the front desk of the hospital for the public's perusal. Joynt said he was 100 per cent behind this move by the board. He said he gets his advice from the local doctors. Councillor Clark asked how much the new wing would cost and Hayes outlined the proposed funding for the project which is estimated to cost a total of 51,400,000. The Ministry of Health, Huron County, the hospital and the hospital foundation have already pledged 5743,750 and the additional funding required will be met through a Dank loan of 5300,000 and a fund raising campaign of 5356,250. Hayes said the Ministry has been supporting projects which show a new approach. Since the Ministry doesn't know how they will raise the total amount of money to fund the project, they are seizing on any new approach to funding. Wingham and District Hospital has suggested if the Ministry funds a portion of the project, the hospital will find the funding for the remainder. Hayes said he is excited about the possibility of attracting new specialists to the hospital when the wing is completed. He told council new programs can also be impler t- ented such as the floating bed policy .n gerentology. When a spouse is chronically ill. care of that person wears on the other spouse and eventually you have two sick people, said Hayes. With this new policy, the person requiring care would enter hospital for two weeks to provide a two week vacation for the person giving the care, allowing that person to rest and relax without the responsibility for two weeks. Councillor Ab Murray commented that the hospital board is hoping that area service clubs will launch fund raising campaigns after they have been approached. Chairman Vair replied that presentations have been made to area municipal councils and service clubs and the response has been very positive. Hayes pointed out that the hospital was not requesting grants from the municipal councils for this project, because they so generously supported the most recent addition at the hospital. Hayes said they are taking the present- ation to municipal councils to inform them about the project and the need for the new wing. "We are looking for moral support from councils." said Hayes. The executive director said there had been misunderstandings between the hospital and the community in the past and encouraged council to contact him if they had any questions regarding the hospital. "If there's something bothering you, don't let it fester, phone me and talk about it." Hayes said.
