Midgets win home opener
By George Gibson
in their home opener against Mildmay ofn
Monday night, the Lucknow Midgets
emerged on the right end of a 5 - 1 score.
Although a much better contest in terms
of penalties than the gale in Mildmay, this
game lacked the crisp passing attack of a fast
flowing game. However,, the game was a
close contest with lots of eiciting action for it
wasn't until an empty net goal late in the
game that Lucknow earned the two goal
spread.
Grant Murray opened the scoring at 4.57
of the first with an unassisted goal, but
Mildmay tied the score on a power play near
the end of the period. Midway through the
second, Dan Gilchrist again gage Lucknow
the edge, with an unassisted goal, only to
have Mildmay tie the score at two, late in the
period.
Early in the third, Darin Lindsay made the
play of the game as he picked up a loose
puck near the Lucknow blue line and, after
two neat shifts, with a hard shot from in
close, scored Lucknow's third unassisted
goal. Not about to concede. the Mildmay
team bounced back and less than a minute
later tied the score, when the line that had
scored their other goals, clicked for their
third market.
Although the period was a closely fought
contest, Dan Gilchrist netted what proved to
be the game winner at 14.26 on passes from
Ritchie and D. Murray and while a man
short, playing four skaters against 6, Torn
Gilmore added an empty net insurance
market on passes from K. Van Osch and D.
Murray with just 22 seconds left On the
clock.
The team earned their 5 - 3 victory which
brings their record to 1-1-1. Next home game
will be a tough match against Ripley on
November 21.
